I was in Arkansas once and ordered meatloaf at some diner. It tasted just like what I would imagine melted Styrofoam™ from a microwave would taste like.

Guess that explains it.

If she wins ya'll can just shoot me. Oh wait, all guns will be outlawed so just have Ted Kennedy run me over with his car. That will work.

Just wait. She'll be taking some "time off" for a while and be out of the public eye for what will be the first of a few transitional cosmetic surgeries (totally hush-hush) and slowly, almost imperceptibly, she will become younger. By the time the election comes around, there will be a "good looking" Hillary.

By then you just might want to intern for her.

Hey -- it'd be much easier to get by the wife. Just tell her you spilled some of your tuna sandwich on yourself at lunch!

I truly believe you are wrong as just last week on the bottom of the fold front page read that public support for a run from Hillary Clinton has been dropping dramatically to well under 50% from above 60%. And Condelleeza (sp) Rice has had a dramatic rise in her support for a run for the office from low 30's to the mid 40's.

I think I'm ready for a woman President. But it had better not be THAT one.

I pray Jeb Bush does not run as that locks McCain for the nomination if he wants it. A man who not only loves his party but enough to stand up against it, done, you have my vote.

As much as I like McCain I worry about his temper. I worry about more war. I don't know if Jeb is anything like his brother. I surely don't think GW is anything like his dad.

I also don't think this country is ready for a woman. Would I vote for one? Yes. I think they would have a better chance getting elected if they were on the VP ticket. Ferraro didn't make it. I don't even remember who she ran with. Mondale or was it Dukakis?

But I plan on voting Democrat until I see what the Republicans offer. If it is anything like GW forget it.

But as of now this country is split in half. The 2 parties hate one another.

This November elections will be interesting to see what happens.

Right now numbers don't matter, we're still in the first quarter of 2006. She could have numbers in the 30s right now and it would be meaningless. Public opinion can be turned quickly and easily.

However, even though public opinion can be turned, deep seated issues with regard to sex AND race is a different story entirely. Condi is smart, very smart. She's also savvy and has good people behind her. You could even turn around her appearance with regard to how she presents herself (she could learn to smile more and seem less foreboding, and you could even convince people she likes children and puppies . . . BUT, you can't make her white, and as sad a statement as it is, this country could accept a female president, but not a black female president. THAT is just too much to surmount. It's too bad too because she's pretty sharp, but that alone does not get you elected.

The only way they could MAYBE pull it off is to use the very thing that works the most against her to her advantage. Present it as a victimization scenario (this country loves victims, the whole psychological/lack of responsibility mindset is based on it), it would go something like this:

Hey, did you see how a woman like Condi Rice has worked hard to make it to where she is today?!?!?! For a woman to beat the odds like that is amazing!!! And she plays the piano too!!!! And did you notice she's black?!?!?! Wow. If she can get over the female hurdles, AND do all that while being black, then she's a very strong woman!!! She's got my vote!

However, while the victim card often works, I don't think it's enough to work here. America is still backward in a lot of respects that way.

Is that all it takes to get your vote? Huh. Interesting.

You might be surprised. Just as you would vote for one, I think these days a lot of people would, more than would not (based only on gender).

She ran with Mondale and got slaughtered in the press for her husband's financial antics. Reagan won in a landslide. It was 1984.

All the more reason Hillary stands a good chance of winning. The democrats are of a mind "Anyone but W" and a lot of Republicans are headed that way too. It's telling that a lot of the midterm election candidates for the republicans are starting to ask behind the scenes "Please don't have Bush announce his support for me."

It's interesting. Not that I'm really old, but I don't ever recall the country so divided, not even during scandal ridden times. The reasons for it are numerous and complex and could fill volumes. I'll leave it at that.

Yes they will. If it wasn't so funny it would be tragic.

Does he have a chance? Sure. Will he get the nod? Well, with regard to the Republican Party, who knows. I don't see a frontrunner for the GOP, mostly because they don't see one themselves.

A lot hinges on what happens in the next year and a half.

I don't care what the polls say, or how party loyalists spin it. What you have is a party that has both Houses and the Presidency and they haven't been able to accomplish anything. Sooner or later that's going to come back and bite them. It's a golden opportunity for the Dems, but they are so disorganized as to not be able to agree on how to make use of it.

The Dems have a candidate with name recognition and power (Clinton) but no plan.

The Repubs have great organization and currently no frontrunner. A lot of people seem to like McCain, but I have heard rumors about health, and quite frankly, other than the fact he's a war hero, what else has he got? Whatever it is, it wasn't enough to get himself nominated the last time around. He may be able to stand up against his own party (that's to his advantage and will be a big plus once the Lame Duckness sets in and if the Dems can present the image to the public that the Repubs are akin to the Keystone Cops, then the "rebel factor" having been established early may be all McCain needs, but honestly, For the GOP, right now it's anyone's guess.

Uh . . . OK.

I don't know what you're thanking me for, but you're welcome.

Vote for the person you think is best suited for the job. The person you believe in. Not for the guy you think stands the best chance of winning or the guy (or gal) who looks good in the polls.

Who do you think will make the best President? Who believes in the same things you do?

That said . . . on a completely different note (and mostly because I don't want to start a new thread, although I might if there is no response here) . . .

an associate and I were sitting around talking, in fact we've had this discussion often lately . . .

Can you think of anyone out there right now who is Presidential?

And by that I don't mean who looks the best, or who has the best numbers . . . I mean who out there, politician or not, is really a leader? Who out there has the timber to REALLY do the job? Forget the fact that whoever WANTS the job is probably unfit for it . . . who out there today is PRESIDENTIAL?
