what pissed me off the most was how the guy constantly pretty much talked down on the American people and mocked us. On top of mocking Americans mocked our American cars and trucks!

They actually responded to my complaint

Thank you for your e-mail regarding 'Top Gear'.

I understand you were offended by comments made on the programme and also felt that the truck tested was a poor choice. Jeremy Clarkson is a well known personality renowned not only for his great authority and deep understanding of the car world, but also as an entertainer. His sense of humour and often outrageously provocative opinions are not intended to be taken seriously. They are voiced in the spirit of challenging existing conventions.

For many people Jeremy represents the man you love to hate, or at least very least strongly disagree with. He uses irony and deliberate overstatement in order to challenge his audience at the same time as entertaining them, and one of his most notable trademarks is a declared aversion to the current trend for political correctness.

Let me assure you that it is never the intention of the BBC to offend our audience in any way. Nevertheless, please be assured I have registered your comments regarding this issue and have made them available to the 'Top Gear' production team and the senior BBC management. Feedback of this nature helps us when making decisions about future BBC programmes and your comment will play a part in this process.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact the BBC.

Regards

Adam Sims
