Moving to Cali

Hey folks. I'm Moving out to the west coast. I've been here in the east my whole life, I know not one person place or thing out there, but I need to be in the LA area. If any cali people could give me the heads up of what areas to go to and stay away from , that would be cool. I've researced Burbank, Pasadena , Glendora, but does any one know about Apple Valley, Hesperia, Pomona or any other area . Any info would be appreciated.

Do you need to be close to downtown L.A? Apple Valley is nice but it depends on how far your willing to travel.

I don't know much about LA traffic, except what it appears to be busy , but I don't think I want much more than an hour drive each way if possible. thanks roush.

Well an hour in L.A traffic could be about 5 miles on a bad day.... I take it your going to be working downtown then...look into Burbank and Apple Valley and parts of Pasadena.... I don't know about Pomona though.... Hesperia is ok too... I live in Bakersfield which is about 1 1/2- 2 hours from L.A depending on traffic

Im sorry you have to head out to Commiefornia, it is truly a sad excuse of a state these days, and getting worse. I cant think of a much worse place in the US to be.

Now, I know that you are basing that on the "overall" general majority viewpoint of the state...which I will agree is less than favorable... but for us San Diegon's it isn't so bad. We are a NAVY town so it tends to be more conservative, and we avoid the majority of the left crap going on in San fran and such.

don't knock ALL of California....just the northern parts

I was stationed in Riverside for a few months back in the 70s. Smog was bad. Traffic was a nightmare. I have family in the LA area. Housing prices out there are through the roof. Gasoline is expensive. I believe that proposition 13 about 20 or so years ago out there froze your property taxes so they wouldn't increase. So when a new buyer moves in the property taxes then get a huge increase to make up the difference. The area is prone to fires, earthquakes and mudslides. Illegal imiigrants everywhere. Gang violence everywhere. A couple years ago our neighbors bought a pool company out there. In less than a year they moved back. They hated evrything about it. Other than that it isn't too bad.

When I think of california, I always have the old show "chips" california highway patrol flashback in my head. The big 70's cars speeding down the highway and disco music playing.

I did forget one thing. Jersey has much better beaches than Cali. At least the ones in the LA area. Jersey has better beaches than many places I've seen.

Funny you should say that. I always think of the movie that Robbie Benson was in. He was moving to California. He falls a sleep the night he gets there. The next thing you see is beautiful women, great weather, a great job and nice cars. What a dream come true. Then he wakes and you realize it was all a dream. He then goes out in the pouring rain. He runs into all sorts of rude selfish people. He goes down to the beach where a huge powerplant is spewing out polution from it's chimneys and he realizes how bad it sucks out there.

I have to agree with you there. I've only been to beaches up and down the east coast and Jersey by far is the best. Florida pretty good too.

Just move to Denver dude.

All the features of L.A., like smog, traffic, murder, nightlife, but with half the fruits, nuts, and idiotic laws.

Plus in Denver, if you want to experience stupidity as only California can deliver, you can run up to Boulder! (A very close second place.)

(And fewer earthquakes.)
