I was sad for Raoul, and thinking about him losing his dog bandit.
While sitting on the sofa (on a laptop) reading these posts/comments out loud to my wife, our 2 1/2 year old Beagle, Sam, jumped up on the sofa, came over and raised up where he could lick my cheek, then curled up beside me with his head on my lap and went fast asleep, sighing deeply several times. From how he acted, I KNOW he understood that something was going on...
You CANNOT tell me that our pets don't have personality, intelligence, and the ability to communucate with us even without speaking.
I never knew I could love a pet as much as I do this little guy. From the time I first saw him at just a few months old and weighing 5 lbs. he has stolen my heart. As much a I love him, as much as he needs and depends on me, he gives back MANY times whatever I give to him.
Again, to Raoul, it may take time for you and your family to heal (you may not even want to completely heal or forget), but there is another puppy out there right now who will love you just as much as Bandit did.
Here's hoping he finds you...

Awhile back we went for a week-long vacation on the beach near Charleston SC, but we went without our best friend (besides each other) Sam. On the third day, we made the 11 hr. straoght round-trip back to Atlanta to get him because we were so miserable without him, we missed him as much as he missed us.
Never have made that mistake again. Except to go out to eat, or to Church, pretty much wherever we go he goes. He may be spoiled rotten, but he for dang sure knows that he is loved...
Wish I know how to put his pictures up on here...
Can't stand cats, but I'm a goner for this little Beagledog.

It was gastric torsion, the number two killer of large dogs after cancer.
The stomach twists over like a hammock causing bloat and can be fatal quickly. It is common and so many people do not know about it.
He also had hip displaysia but was mobile and we were managing it.
The xrays also showed an unidentified mass.
From the time he arrived until diagnosed, his gums had gone from pink to gray.
Our vet since Bandit was a pup advised against the $3,000 surgery after factoring his age, condition and unknown mass. Even young dogs can have gastric torsion. Warning signs are sudden change in behavior and bloat.
My wife made the right call. Bandit was too good to us all his life, for us to put him through that for selfish reasons.

Cancer got both of my pups. It about killed me both times.
The first was DJ my husky. She was ill but doing better. I came home from high school expecting to go get her and bring her home. I run in, "Let's go get my girl Mom!!". She has this look and my father tells me she just died. (This is actually tough to type). You could have hit me with a sledgehammer and it would have hurt less. For days I was really depressed. My life long cat Snowball, who was renowned for not caring about anybody but himself, actually laid with me for 2 days. I swear he was comforting me (I sound like a nut I know). On the 3rd day, he got up and didn't come back in, as if to say "Move on".
Shadow I had to put down due to the cancer. It was the right thing to do but it still hurt. I carried him out of the vets office, crying like a little girl. My uncle built him a casket (pic in my gallery) and I dug him a grave in the back yard and encased him in concrete. Still can't get shrubs to grow there....what a pain even now...
Man I want another dog.

My last dog, Sandy, (Who looks exactly like my new dog Mason) had heart problems that too her. I was just starting college and didn't have $3K to spend on surgery. After a couple days; I decided I had to do it; even though I couldn't afford the cash. Within 24 hours; she passed; before I could get her to the vet for the operation.
