Dog died

Lame thread I know but, the previous seven years of my life are documsnted on this forum and so such a day as this should too.

I'm on the road this week, my wife calls at 5am to tell me something is wrong with Bandit. The problems keep tumbling out of the phone, Vet doesn't open until 7:30...how to move 90 lb German Shepherd that won't get up...how to move the rear seat forward on a van we've had for eleven years.

A neighbor helps with transport when the vet opens. One daughter stays home from school another drives home from 50 miles away.

I'm in meetings all morning, when I call at 10:22 all three women are sobbing, the vet has just administered the shot. They had moved him from the small examination room to the green grass outside on this beautiful morning.

Hey was a great dog and would have liked so many of you. Some of you he would have bit.

He was my good friend for 13 plus years

and I didn't get to say goodbye.

That's sooo sad.

I remember when I had to put my dog down 9 years ago. We have a new pooch now; and even though we've only had him for a month or two; it would kill me if something happened to him.

Stay strong and I wish your family the best.

I am very sorry for you and your family. Our animals have always become family members, so I know what it means when you lose one. Sounds as if he had a good and long life.

Raoul,

On a humerous note, sometimes the reverse situation has to be considered. Maggie, our Rat Terrier is 3 and they usually live till 17, sometimes longer. She is a major part of mine and my wife's lives. She has me wrapped around her nubby tail, and she and I spend a lot of time together. My wife is very concerned that Maggie will out live us and everytime we are with our son, she makes him promise that he will take Maggie. I think her biggest fear is that I will kick off and she will have to deal with Maggie's depression.

I've been there and it sucks. We couldn't put ours down after hogs got a hold of him. She had the needle and everything. He actually licked his arterry to make it clot or he would have bleed to death. He stayed at the vet for like 3 weeks and was sewed up a few times. He got well and lived about a year and half more. His hearing ended up causing his death. :o

I'm so sorry to hear this I have a German Shepherd as well (Only 1 year 3 months) but he weights 130lbs. Big german breed. Best dog ever, so darn sweet with family, but then again protective by nature. I'm truly sorry for your loss, the individuals that don't fully understand the German Shepherd breed have no idea. I too have a Purebreed Yellow Lab, and these dogs are really sweet, generous and loyal, but still the lab doesn't come close to how sweet, loyal and generous my German Shepherd is. German Shepherd's IMO is the reason for the Quote "Man's Bestfriend." I'm really sorry for your loss.

Raoul, I'm sorry to hear about your dog, bandit.
i know how dogs become apart of the family and how the rest of your family will miss him.
You didn't need to be there at the vets, you were there with him in his dreams and memories when he went to heaven.

Sorry to hear Raoul- Sometimes I think its harder to loose a pet... They are always there for you, dont care what kind of mood your in, and are just as happy to sit on the couch and watch movies all day, as opposed to being hauled around and entertained. I'm getting closer to crossing that bridge myself- My Lab, Pepper, is 13 and my best buddy. She is the one who got me through my nasty divorce. That will be a very sad day for me.

I had a German Shepard get bit by a snake and die, after I buried her, I called my dad. Amazingly, they had just got finished putting down their shepard that they've had for 11 years, that same morning...

You cannot beat a German Shepard...Sorry to those of you believe otherwise, but anyone who's had a shepard knows exactly what I'm talking about.

Raoul, we just found out that my shepard is pregnant. She's AKC registered, and so is the father... I'll work you out a sweet deal if you want...

Here's a pic....

I'm so sorry Raoul. I know how you must be feeling. Takes a long time to get over the loss of a pet. They are family.
