Jello . . . WTF ?!?!?!
Who the hell invented this stuff . . . and why?
I remember eating it sometimes as a kid. My memories of it are fonder than the reality I experience now.
And now, as an adult, looking at this stuff sitting (actually wiggling) before me, I have to wonder who would invent some kind of stuff that's not really solid, not really liquid, wiggles, and is just totally weird? I mean, really, what was going thru that person's mind?
And if, like most things, it was "invented" by accident, then what demented soul, sitting there looking at the mistaken by-product of whatever it was they were actually trying to invent . . . who sits there and says . . .
"Hey, look at the wiggly glob of stuff sitting there . . . I think I'll eat it and see what that's like." ?
Because this stuff:
is just seriously weird.

Does anyone rember the Jello commercial from the mid 60's where they had a a native ( African, Brazilian ?) standing at a river with a huge waterfall behind him and he is talking in a strange dialict with the english sub titles " cool like waterfall tastes like fruit"

"The gelatin you eat in Jell-O comes from the collagen in cow or pig bones, hooves, and connective tissues. To make gelatin, manufacturers grind up these various parts and pre-treat them with either a strong acid or a strong base to break down cellular structures and release proteins like collagen. After pre-treatment, the resulting mixture is boiled. During this process, the large collagen protein ends up being partially broken down, and the resulting product is called gelatin. The gelatin is easily extracted because it forms a layer on the surface of the boiling mixture."

I will eat it occasionally. I usually make it and leave it cool some until just ready to start to set and take some heavy or whipping cream and wisk into it. Makes for a nice creamy desert.
The basic directions always worried me, mix with water leave until set, or hard.
Same basic directions on a bag of cement.

"wisk" isn't a word that is commonly used amongst the masses here. Although, with some edgejoomakashun, we may have the masses singing the praises of such sites as thesaurus.com and dictionary.com. I think this may be a resolution for the upcoming New Year.
