X box 360.....
I have a dilema here. My son is turning 13 Sunday, and he want's that xbox 360. I don't want him wasting his money on another system. He has just over $400. saved for it and want's me to pay the rest. He already has ps1,ps2,psp game systems already. I think enough is enough. I told him he needs to start saving for a car, not games. He is a good kid with good grades and well behaved. I feel real bad on saying No, but what should i do????

I guess what's bothering me is the what is it going to be next year? This game crap pisses me off. This thing he want's cost about $400. Then you have to buy some sort of extended service contract, because they have problems of freezing up and breaking. Then you need an extra controller then the games cost??? So you are up to $500-600. For CRAP!!!

I think I've had every single game system that came out other than the Gamecube. Tell him he can get the Xbox 360 if he sells all of his Playstations and games. Also, I've had my 360 for over a year and never had any problems with it so I don't think you would need to buy that extended service contract.

And if you do get the one with the Hard drive or you will pay big for it when you realize you need it.
But then again if he came up with over 1/2 of it and is getting good grades then he deserves it.

PS3 is by far the best buy...maybe not "bang for the buck" since it is insanely expensive

A Game Developer's View: Xbox360 vs PS3
>> From hardcoreware.net:
Being a video game developer (I develop for both, Playstation 3 and XBOX 360) people ask me almost daily which platform I think is better. These are my personal feelings, in no way does this reflect my employer.
Performance: On paper, the PS3 is more powerful. In reality, it's quite inferior to the 360. Without getting into too many details, the three general-purpose CPU's the xbox360 has are currently FAR easier to take advantage of than the SPU's on the PS3. I suspect a few years down the road some high budget, first party PS3 exclusive titles will come out that really take advantage of the SPU's and do things the XBOX 360 can't, but I don't think the console is worth buying based on this speculation (for some it will be though, we'll have to wait and see how these games turn out).
Graphics: The XBOX 360 is a clear winner. The GPU is more powerful. It has more powerful fillrate, and far more pixel and vertex processing horsepower. Part of the reason is their choice of memory, and architecture of pixel and vertex procesing. I can't get into details but the same vertex shader will run much slower on the PS3 than the XBOX 360. The 360 also has a clever new way rendering high definition anti aliased back buffers. To accomplish the same effect on PS3 is prohibitively expensive. For this reason I think many games will have no choice but to run in non-HD resolutions on the PS3 version, use a lower quality anti aliasing technique, or do back buffer upscaling. The end result in all cases is going to be noticeably worse image quality.

I spend a ton of money on dolls and stuff and my 5 year old daughter just wants to play games. Everything is a race to her.
But she is good, good in school and very smart so I have no problems with her wanting to play games. (She kicks my a$$ at most xbox games.)

You can get the 360 and put a time limit rule on it.
For my kid I took it away for the whole summer and only let her play it for limited times through the winter.
