I was just visting my uncle in charlotte for thanksgiving and he just got an 07' M5. I took it out for a spin and it moves pretty damn fast but it just doesn't seem as fast as mine..he says it has around 507hp..I told him I could take it out and he laughed and my brother said no way..It has that automatic/manual shifter thing which is pretty cool..i have an 03' L with 8lb lower, k&n fipk air filter, chip, and magnaflow exhaust..i've never had my L dynoed but what do you guys think...Could I take him or not????? thanks

My friend has one. They are damn fast. When you drove it did you hit the power button? If you did not you were only running 400hp. The button adds the extra 100hp.

seriously? with all the electronic wizzardry in that car, he'll eat you alive on the street, at the track, on turns, top end, and braking.

Then again don't hold your head low, you're driving a $30,000.00farm truck compared to a high dollar BMW basically supercar!

ask him if he wants to trade

Heck yea, thats what I'm talkin' about. I ran a non-ported eaton at 16 psi for almost 2 years without a problem. Lots of racing on the track and the street....It wasnt until I sent it to steig for the new stage 4 port and a new tune from a popular vendor that the bottom end failed. The new mail order tune and ported eaton lasted 2 weeks. NO problems now with the JLP built KB combo....I recomend it.

Its an awesome car that I've been looking at for a while. Too bad it has $40,000 of gadgets on it. Striped down to 3400lbs it would be really fast and a great car. 500hp and 383ft/lbs high in the rpm band. The single worst item on that car is the sequential tranny and that's why they are introducing a 6 speed this year. Nice on the track but awful on the street. Car is nearly 4100lbs (depending on options)because of the incredible amount of gadgets. Its a high 13 second car. If you listen to the BMW guys, its like they are talking about the space shuttle

So up to 70 to 80 mph, with a good launch it should be easy prey. After that he's got you.

Do it and let us know.

For the price I think both the M3 and the M5 are a joke. They should be faster IMO. Never did like the BMWs and will never own one. Like TrackBeast said you should have no problems from a dig. Add a few more mods and you will take him up to 120.

Just make a $200 bet with your uncle. If he is driving an $80,000 car, he can afford it.

And make a $100 side bet with your brother. Who cares if he can afford it. He shoulda got your back instead of sucking up and thinking about some inheritance down the road.

That will teach them to laugh at you.

(uh..make sure you have $300 in your pocket before you do this)

You better bring slicks. I've seen a new M5 at the road coarse and when it hit the straightaways it got moving...quickly.

Food for thought:
Car and Driver Magazine:
0-60
4.20 sec.

1/4 Mile
12.50 sec.

Motor Trend Magazine:
0-60
4.50 sec.

1/4 Mile
12.90 sec.

Road and Track Magazine:
0-60
4.10 sec.

1/4 Mile
12.40 sec.

I had read the initial tests on that car but Motor Trends latest gives these figures.

Test Data
Acceleration to mph optimized mode / default mode
0-30 2.0 / 2.4 sec
0-40 2.7 / 3.3
0-50 3.7 / 4.8
0-60 4.5 / 6.0
0-70 5.7 / 7.9
0-80 7.0 / 9.6
0-90 8.4 / 11.3
0-100 10.0 / 13.9
Passing 45-65 mph 1.8 / 2.8 s
Quarter mile 12.9 sec @ 114.9 mph /14.4 sec @ 101.9 mph

If the guy can't master the electronics, he won't achieve the optimize mode and you will eat him.

Looks like they have figured out how to properly use the I drive and launch control. One thing is clear, if you remove the rev limiter, the car will easily exceed 200mph.

Go for it!
