dog food recipes?
Any one have any good dog food recipes that you have experience with. There are many on the internet. some are advocates for the raw meat diet, (not to intrested). The cooked food recipes seem to have a lot of rice but no oatmeal, all have vegetables, some have garlic etc....
Our dog is a small, apx 10 lbs, long hair mutt, poodle and terrier and....? An energetic and smart dog but he has been sleeping a lot lately, and crosses between soft stools to constibation. We had him on a dry food diet with some bones and meat scraps and our friend makes grain dog bone treats , 1-2 a day.
Thank-x for any and all replies.

If you buy a quality dog food rated for your dog you should be fine. Just don't switch back and forth between the chicken and lamb. Seems best to stick with one. If you want something to make the food more attractive or need something for training try this. Buy a dollar or two of calfs liver. Put it in a pan preferably on the barbeque because it doesn't smell the greatest. Set the heat at about 200 or 225 and leave it for 2 hours or so. Turn it over and leave it another hour or two. When it looks like its hardening up a little take it out and cut it into small cubes. Keep it in the fridge in a baggy but don't seal the bag. Leave it open and over time it will turn a little crunchy. If you seal it, it will mould because there is still moisture in it. Before you get to the fridge you will have your dog following you everywhere. It is amazing how much they love that stuff. Great for training and its healthy. Try it.

Our dog loves apples, but NO apple cores, they contain arsenic.

Here's what my dog loves! I dont have a receipe, the girlfriend makes it.
Brown Rice +
Hamburger Meat + (She cook it; uses about two hamburger's worth)
Fresh Garlic +
Can of Chicken Broth +
Can of Green Beans.
He also LOVES scrambled eggs.
Oh, and when we cook chicken breasts; there's usually an extra flab of chicken on each breast. We cut that off and it's his. Just let it cool and cut/tear it up into small bits.
Aside from cheese, that's about all he gets. His regular food is Innova Adult. A bit more than I like to pay but he's worth it.

Our dog Sam (3-year old Beagle), loves green beans, sliced ham cut up into small pieces, cheese, LOVES carrots, apples (cut up small pcs.), small pieces of chicken. He also likes most fruits and vegetables, watermelon, any kind of meat, and he LOVES chicken livers and scrambled eggs.
He thinks he's a little people, doesn't seem to know he is a dog. Won't even TOUCH hard dog food unless we top it with something else.
We even call his canned soft food "beef stew" when he can hear to make it sound more like people food.
It's hard to know what they can and cannot eat (keeping in mind that they can eat bugs, shoes and socks) other than bad stuff already listed above this post, but we try to give some variation with his hard dog food. We find he seems healthier with shinier coat if we get better quality dog food products from a pet place and not stuff from the supermarket. He likes the "Nutro"best, also will eat some of the Eukanuba products. There are some brands that he will not even touch, even when we know he is hungry.
When you go to supermarket many of the name brands first listed (largest percentage of) is corn, byproducts, soy, and water. I don't like large amounts of that stuff, how can he like it?
He is also still a chewer (hope he outgrows it) and anything softer than a bowling ball or an engine block is in grave danger...
What most any of us won't do for our little pets to keep them happy and healthy, and here with us for as long as possible...

Thank you all.
Did not know about the onion almost put some in . We made some using ground beef, rice, mashed potatoes and green beens (that had been run through the blender), added a little bit of salt.
He just loved it. was so active last night.
I do know that a heavy salt diet will make a dog cough due to heart disease.
