how to fix pitbull problem
#46
Is it not true that some dogs are bred for guarding or even fighting? Yes. It’s also true that some breeds are known to have more of a disposition for aggression.
There are many stories of Pit Bulls attacking people. Does that mean that all are going to do it? No. Does it mean that other dogs won’t? No. I love dogs they are companions but you would be foolish not to want to protect yourself or family if there is a chance of an altercation with a large dog in your neighborhood. No way should those people be letting their dogs run loose.
You may now carry on with your brawling.

"Then you have liberal imbeciles who create a website to say dogs are not the problem, it's the owners, human beings, that are the problem. When animals are given equal billing of rights as humans, then we as society are freaking doomed. Last time I checked, animals are here to be used by humans. Whether that be entertainment or medium rare with a baked potato, animals are here for us to use.

You're an idiot too, if you don't think that environment and training don't have more to do with dog behavior than breeding.

Like it or not, humans are here to use animals as we see fit. As soon as a merkat or possum or platypus or giraffe or whatever is given equal rights as a human, WE ARE ALL DOOMED. Society will collapse shorty after that.
Yes, there are problem OWNERS. There are also problem animals. Humans are at the top of the chain so it rests on the shoulders of all of us to ensure animals do not hurt people.
In certain cases, I could care less if the animal gets the upper hand, such as rodeo. You take a 2000lb bull tie a rope around his junk and then jump on & **** him off. I don't care if the bull rider gets stomped cause if you play with fire, eventually you're gonna get burned. This is a good example of a case where I agree with the left. I believe Rodeo is cruelty to animals. It's a completely useless undertaking. That and a few other examples are about as far as I go for animal rights.

Agreed.

People obviously have strong feelings about these dogs. The people that are owners or have owned in the past either love the dogs or respect them very highly. I have seen a pit bull in action against a wild hog and I can tell you that it was a bad little dog. I would not want to be on the other end of any attack from the dog that I witnessed.
Also, if I lived near a family that let pit bulls (or any large dog for that matter) roam around, I would probably not let my kids play outside without watching over them at all times.
I was attacked by a group of Alaskan Malamutes when I was a child and it was a very scary experience. Luckily a neighbor witnessed this and ran the dogs off. Otherwise, I could have been a victim of those dogs.
I do like dogs, although I do not own one. I wouldn't mind a lab, but don't want to have to feed it and take care of it.
I guess my point is that I can't blame the original poster for doing whatever they feel they need to do to make sure their children are safe. Especially if their neighbors seem to ignore the repeat calls to animal control by keeping the animals inside during the time that they are performing inspection or whatever they are doing.
Doing whatever needs to be done includes proving that the dogs are a nuisance so that they can be taken care of in a fair manner. Or, moving to a new neighborhood where they feel that their children are safer.

There are many owners that get their kicks, feeling of importance from haveing a vicious dog. These people would get a pitbull or any other breed that has a mean reputation, over a poodle or a lab. Fifi the mad poodle just does not do it.
Many years ago we took in a pound dog that was a mix of a large lab and full size poodle. He was just down right mean because of neglect. Once he knew you he was a pussiecat but when we had him loose in the shop we had the doors locked because he would attack any and everyone. I once had him on short the lease for a walk and the highschool girls PE class ran by, He just freaked, and tried attacking and lunging at the girls. I was just able to contain him. We sadly had him put down.
The owner is every thing as to how the dog interacts with people and other dogs. Many years ago I had ( note had) a friend that would aggrivate his dogs to make them vicious, he did not want a dog for a companion or company for his kids, he wanted a mean dog. These are the asshats that are the root cause of these dogs acheaving the bad rap.

Since I feel I might have been mis-understood in the last few posts, let me break it down for you. I DO NOT advocate animal abuse or neglect or anything of that nature. All I'm saying is that humans are on the top of the chain. You simply can't make the arguement that animals deserve equal rights as humans. That's idiotic at the highest level.
As a good example of a "Bad Dog" & "Bad Owners" I can look at my sister's & BIL's dog. They rescued a Dalmation from a animal rights group. The dogs name is Missy but I call the dog "LawSuit".
Example of "Bad Owners":
The dog was quite obviously abused by her previous owners. It has a few scars, a messed up ear and one of her ribs sticks out kind of funny leading me to believe that she had been beaten/abused repeatedly. The dog is stone deaf and I believe the previous owners beat the dog because it wouldn't respond to training. When the rescue group finally got the dog, the poor thing was about 25lb (anorexic for a Dalmation) and would bite just about anyone who came near her. These people (previous owners) are a perfect example of "bad owners" & pretty much ignorant scumbags. If you can't accept the responsibilty of owning/caring for an animal, DON'T GET ONE.!.!
Example of "Good Owners":
My sister & BIL. They love this animal as if it were their child. They would never, EVER abuse this animal. I think they would hit each other before they hit the dog. It has dog beds that cost more than some matresses. It eats people food, not dog food, meaning they actually cook for this dog just as they cook for themselves. It gets money-is-no-object vet care. It pretty much leads as about as an ideal life as a dog could hope for. Despite their affection for their dog, they can be alarmingly un-responsible at times. Read below...
Example of a "Bad Dog":
Missy/LawSuit is beyond hope in my opinion. Despite the level of affection this animal receives, it still is violent & quite often bites. The dog absolutely HATES fat people of the 300+lb range. She will lunge at & bite (viscious draw blood leave scars biting) ANYONE who looks like this. This leads one to draw the conclusion the primary abuser of this animal was a fat person. She will not tollerate children and often "warning" snaps at children. When the dog is taken into a Petsmart, etc, of course people are going to look at the pretty Dalmation and fawn all over it. I've witnessed at least 10 episodes of biting in pet stores which led me to nickname the dog "LawSuit". The fact they know the dog bites for no reason yet still subject the public to it shows their lack of responsibility. I've warned them several times that someone will eventually sue them over a bite and hence the nickname. Is any of this the animals fault? Absolutely not. Does the dog present a danger to people. Absolutely & it should be put down. I've personally been bitten twice and the dog has been kicked for her efforts for one of the bites. I did not want to kick my sister's dog but it drew blood on me and my temper took control. I now refuse to go near this animal.
Finally, there are some breeds that represent more danger than others. It's a fact and denying this is the case is ostrich head-in-the-sand syndrome. You NEVER, EVER hear about a C$cker Spaniel killing a little girl. Do a GOOGLE search and see how many hits you get. Now do a GOOGLE on Pitbull attacks. If you still deny it after that, your an idiot and should not be in public un-supervised. It's sad for Pitbulls and is probably 95% the owners fault but it still doesn't change statistics. Again, I chalk this up mostly to bad press for certain breeds.
EDIT: For the love of all that's holy, you can't write C$CKER SPANIEL??? What the hell is wrong with society?

For the original question in this thread. . .doesn't your town have a leash law? I'd call animal control every day that the dogs are out and keep calling until you get results. Hopefully they'll get tired of hearing your voice and do something about the problem. If not, call the police and see what can be done.
As for the rest. I admit, Pit Bulls make me nervous. Y'all know I'm a huge animal lover but I would never own a Pit Bull. I'm sure some of it is because of media hype but also because I know what the breed was bred to do. They are fighting dogs. I realize that if raised right they can be as gentle as any other dog, the problem is that even the gentlest of dogs can bite. If a person tells you "my dog doesn't bite" they are in la-la land. Their dog may not have bitten anyone to this date but any and every dog is capable of biting when cornered, confused, hurt or scared. That being said, because of the Pit Bulls strength and size, they have the capability of doing a lot more damage than a smaller, less powerful dog. I just don't trust them but that is my opinion, I don't begrudge anyone else the right to keep them as pets as long as they are responsible pet owners and realize they have a dog that could do real harm and act accordingly. My dog, Casey, gentle as a lamb but she weighs 52 pounds and could inflict a severe bite. I don't let her run all over the neighborhood and I keep her leashed when off our property. Not because she's vicious but because she is a dog and dogs can be unpredictable. If you want to own a large breed dog, you need to think about all the possibilities and take all the precautions. Plain and simple.

Anyone that would have one of these dogs needs to be put to sleep with the dog.
They are ALL potentially deadly. They get headaches and associate it with anything that moves around them.
