GM is also getting 285HP out of a 4.8L, only 15HP less and a full .5L smaller.

The thing that is frustrating to me is that Ford "plans" all sorts of things, but by the time the "plans" make it to market, its already a 2nd place idea. For example, as it stands, the 5.4 3v has 300 hp, and the Dodge 5.7 has 345. Its taking so long to get us a bigger better engine, that by the time our awesome 6.2 liter BOSS motor hits (if it hits), it may already be 2nd place.
Lets be real here. That wiki entry is overly hopeful. The fact is the new engine probably will NOT have 425 horses. Look at it like this. In 2003 the 5.4 had 260 horses. In 2004 they bumped it 40 horses (if that, we all know its overrated). So if this trend holds, and we know that Ford wont typically astonish us too much, so go with the trend and estimate 345-350 horses (also overrated?).
Bah who knows, thats just my 2 cents, dont know what it mean to you guys, but if you look at the past, you'd probably see that Ford would really have no problem at all installing the "300" HP 5.4 3V in the next body style, because thats just the way Ford does business.

I don't care if it looked like Rosie O'Donnell, in a skimpy string two-piece bikini with chocolate spread over her belly and whipped cream on her nipples... With 580 HP, just hand me the keys...
I can learn to live with the rest...
Sorry... I used to like Rosie, can't stand her anymore...

Wow. This is like Deja-Vu all over again with what happened to the British motor industry 20-30 years ago.
The Japanese entered the market, copied our products but refined them into a product that sells by improving quality/performance and matching or bettering the price.
Of course, nearly everyone said that it wouldn't catch on but look where the British motor industry is now.
Correct, non existent except for the Japanese plants.

I just don't understand Fords strategy.
Here is an article on the 2008 Ford Focus http://www.thecarconnection.com/Vehi...80.A11676.html
If you read it, you will see that basically, they have thrown a bit of bling at the 1999 chassis still being used in the USA.
In Europe, they are already several years into a dynamically better and newer platform for this model.
I know for sure that we have better engines over here too.
Isn't this the market Ford are losing out on in North America?
Why don't they sell the better car over there?
You know something? If I was in the market for a small car over there, I'd probably buy Japanese rather than a known inferior product.
Complacency will kill your domestic makers just like it did to ours

But, in Ford's mind, they probably think the average American is aware of the new body-style Focus that's for sale here... (The Mazda 3)
I have to wonder what the "heck" Ford is thinking sometimes. They need to institute random drug screening in their executive levels. Someone over there has GOT to be on crack...

those lights on the new focus remind me a lot of suzukis new lights, like on the xl7 without the teardrop under it.
but i like the sharp/angular body design
