You'd have to be a technically astute automotive technician to install all the stuff Saleen put on that truck to save the labor costs; not to mention the parts.

Parts & labor, on top of a black extended cab F-150 lariat- with floor shifter- I think one would be pretty close to that $60,000 mark when all was said & done, unless they could do it themselves, and save the labor.

They upgraded a lot of stuff on the truck, from looking at the sticker. Brakes, plumbing, superchanrger and other stuff. I think one could copy the exterior look for under $7,000. But to get it to 450 HP would cost more. Last time I looked (2000) a Supercharger alone was about $3,500.00. I've been told to get the max (50% HP increase) from a supercharger, you have to change out the fuel pump and other stuff. You'd be hard-pressed to get a set of 23" chrome rims under $4,000. I've seen Brembo Brake kits on Escalades for $4,500.00.

I'm no mechanic, so I don't know how true that is (About having to change out the plumbing to accomodate the supercharger)..

What Motor Trend had to say:
*************************
Although the absence of the Ford Lightning has been driving certain Ford truck enthusiasts crazy (as well as old Ford Lightning prices skyward), Steve Saleen is looking to work a little performance magic for the power-hungry sport truck loyalists. By this summer, at select Ford dealerships, you will be able to order the Saleen Sport Truck S331.

Among the highlights will be a retuned suspension, 23-inch wheels, 305/40-series street tires, various ground effects, interior accents, and supercharged and intercooled 5.4-liter 24-valve V-8 that puts out over 450 horsepower. The truck will only be offered in two-wheel drive SuperCab configuration but will offer a host of color combinations and options. Base model S331s (no supercharger) will hover around $40,000, with fully loaded models getting over the $50,000 mark with ease. Look for full performance test in an upcoming issue of Truck Trend.

Try $55,000 for a F-250 King Ranch with the 6.4!

There's a dealer in L.A. (lower alabama for all you non-residents) that had 6 Saleen's. Don't know if they were the S/C variants, I was in a hurry to get to the beach.

Yep, so those parts would add up quickly, on top of spending $28,000 - $38,000 for a SuperCab, fleetside Lariat.

I just saw a 2008 F-250 6.4, short bed, 4 x 4 at Middlekauf Ford, with power folding mirrors, etc... ($47,000). It was burgundy and beige- I want to say it was a King Ranch,

Yeah, I saw this somewhere else. Maybe in a magazine…

61k? It will be there next year. I remember going over there when I was looking for the HOG and they had the prior years Saleems they were trying to offload.

I wouldn’t pay over 40k for this. But I’m going to have to stop by and get an in person look and maybe even ask someone to open the hood and fire it up if they don’t mind.

What's up Homeboy?!

Yeah, they have two of them over there. One is $46,000, the other $61K.

I asked the guy what the $15K difference was; all he could really come up with was the Supercharger and the hood, which includes a functional scoop. Other than that (The hood), they are visibly identical, inside and out.

The sticker had fallen down in the $46,000 one, so it was impossible, from a window shopping perspective, to see what else may have been different. I meant to ask them, but- I doubt they would honor the X-Plan on the Saleens...

I couldn't even get Bob Tommes to honor X-plan on the SVT Cobra or Lightning, which is the main reason I ended up with that 03 Expy instead.
