This is the biggest complaint I have with cyclists also. I have no problem with them out there riding the roads but there is no reason at all to impede traffic. If they do cause traffic to come to a stop because they won't move over, being law abiding citizens engaged in a legal act of riding a bicycle, they should be subject to the same laws as the rest of us. If I drive my vehicle really slow and hold up a line of cars I can get a ticket for impeding traffic, why can't they write up the bikers?...Sounds fair to me, bet more of them would move over!

I road bike, but I first drive the route and make sure that all the places where my wheels will touch have a minimum of a 2' shoulder or are VERY lightly travelled (ie: less than 1 car every 3-5 minutes). Needless to say, I tend to drive out to where I ride... Because when I'm driving, it pisses the crap out of me when those idiots are riding 2 abreast on a busy road, causing traffic and a lot of near wrecks, not to mention the fact that they give all of us a bad name. It wouldn't be so bad if everybody would use a little common sense.

Wow, I cannot believe a lot of what you guys are saying.
When all you guys are driving down the freeway and there is a semi truck tire in the road you swerve right? You wouldnt drive strait into it and risk hurting your pride and joy. Well try driving down a road littered with truck tires, boards with possible nails in them, glass bowls, and anything else you can imagine ALL THE TIME. That is what it is like for riders and why a majority of the ones in the "funny clothes" ride the white line. it is because not so smart people in big trucks and cars go get drunk, drive, and decide to throw their bottles out the window. We dont want to get hit but when it is people in cars that scatter OUR lanes with objects that can thrash our tires we do need to move over a little. I get tired of cars and trucks all the time but i dont throw bottles and things into the lanes or yell just because i can or to scare someone...Grow up and get over yourselves.
-One last thing. All you guys saying you hate riders and the "tour de france" races in your town. I challenge you to a bike RIDE not even a race just a RIDE! If you can hang for an entire ride I will bow down and post your greatness on here or youtube or wherever. If you are ever in the Bakersfield area let me know and I will gladly show you what it is like to go riding, then we will see who is blowing their horn afterwards.

I have to chime in on this.. I'm in Austin, Tx where every fat bastard with a bike thinks he's Lance Armstrong. The route I drive every day is on loop 360 and Bee Cave road, very popular for cyclists. There are no "bike lanes" but they ride on the shoulder, which is a full lane wide. Cool, no problem.
The problem comes when the cyclists blow through red lights and stop signs, which the majority do. It's like they don't even see the things. They never acknowledge the screeching tires, the horns, the flipping off. Just keep pedaling. I'm surprised more aren't killed. Yet the local paper is filled with impassioned pleas from cyclists for drivers to "share the road", "be kind to cyclists". What BS!
And for those who ride the white line, I drive a W700 with mirror mounts that extend a good 10 inches beyond the right side of my truck and many a time I know I've passed that thing right over the top of your head at 65 mph. If you can't maintain the speed limit then stay a safe distance away from the traffic.
And there's a sweet thing about a W700.. at any speed I can drop into neutral, floor the pedal and produce a great fog of black diesel exhaust. I see you not obeying traffic laws, suck this into your nice pink lungs, ya a-hole.

Tex, as I said in an earlier post, I see people in cars/trucks doing that every single day! Pot, meet kettle.

And for those making jokes about running people off the road, how would you feel about somebody doing that to your daughter or mother? Not so funny then..?

karma sucks man. maybe one day you have a friend or family member that rides and you produce your great fog and they swerve into a car because they cant see and in turn die. Would you still feel so cool making smoke signals while driving? I know it sounds like a long shot but crazier things have happened...like people not thinking that they HAVE to get to where they are going two minutes faster (tops!) and slowing down for a biker.
EDITYou are one of those guys that brag about how you can drive drunk and be careful aren't you? Seem like it. KUDOS TO YOU! Can we vote for a category of people like this for the Darwin award?

They want to share the road fine, SHARE IT!. Dont ride down the middle of the lane acting like you own the ****in road. Like it or not if you are slower than traffic and holding it up get outta the way. In the summer there is always a group of tour de france wannabes on this stretch of highway riding in a pack holding up one lane on a two lane highway.

Whether they like it or not the roads were built for cars and trucks not bicycles. Two lanes are wide enough for two vehicles to travel abreast, not two and a bike. If the shoulder isnt wide enough find another route.

i no longer ride but i used, too always obeyed the laws and i watch out for bicyclist now. i know i couldn't hang with you on a ride today but a few years (well maybe more than a few)ago i could've.
i have no problem with the respectful riders, it's the ones who think they own the road and town because we put on a bike race. oh sure the race brings money into town (for restaruants hotels) but to force it on the rest of us inthe real world thats not that into biking and expect us to pay more respect than is due to those athletes (yes i said athletes not a-holes) that dont return the respect ont road is what gets me irate. i try to respect those that ride and share the road with those that do all i ask is DO THE SAME and then alot of the issues between car/truck bicycle will disappear

I don't have a problem when bicylists ride on the road although it is kind of annoying but I understand where else are you going to ride. However, we don't have any bicycle lanes here. I just hate when I see the Lance Armstrong wanna-bes that ride down a 50 or 55 mph road. WTF! No, you should be riding on the damn 30-35 mph roads where it'll be less traffic and you could actually keep up with vehicles. I had some assclown in full Lance gear riding with his DAUGHTER at 10:00 at night!!! It was pitch black, I have to turn on left on a road so my lights weren't lighting up where they were and all of a sudden bam there they are just riding in the middle of the effing road!! WTF!

just remember...that since we are treated like cars, we COULD take up the WHOLE LANE if we wanted. Just be happy that we are nice enough to ride on the white line.

If your treated like a car then you are not allowed to impede the flow of traffic. If a car is doing 10MPH in a 35 zone they will be ticketed.

And very few stay off to the side where they belong.
