Hell, according to those types of scientists, we were supposed to run out of oil in Prudhoe Bay about 15 years ago. They also said the caribou herd of about 3000 animals was going to be destroyed by the oilfields being built here. Well, there is still oil going strong, and over the last couple of years, we have seen a major influx of new companies coming up here to drill oil. Once ANWR is opened, we will be set for another 25-30 years at least of production up here.

Oh yea, and as for that caribou herd, well, it numbers over 33,000 animals now and my family eats a few of them every year.

Why couldn't they be the Oil Abundance Analysis Centre.

Or if thy wanted to be neutral make it The Oil Stock Analysis Centre.

I really hope you are being sarcastic. That arguement makes absolutely no economic sense. Hmmmm..... we have this product that everybody will want and it will allow us to extend our curren resourses well past all current expectations. This would virtually eliminate the urgent need to find alternative sources of energy and allow our company to stay in business indefinately. But maybe we should keep it quiet, and be forced into spending billions in research and field development and spend many years taking a loss (called the early 90's) just to stay in business, before finally being able to turn a profit.

No, seriously, it's true! My Uncle Norburt's brother-in-law's second cousin's neighbor's dad, heard from this guy he met at an AA meeting who heard from his wife's son's girlfriend's grandfather, who knew this guy who flew black helicopters for the government, that the oil companies have been keeping back engineered alien technology a secret. (I also know this guy who set the charges in building 7).

On a serious note . . .

That's almost as believable as suppressed technology.

Heck it is all Propaganda BS., I saw a story on 60 Mins., that in Canada they are learning to refine Huge Shale Deposits, that hold more oil than the entire Middle East, also there are some huge Shale Deposits in the western part of this country that they will be tapping into in the future......

Well, all the yelling and screaming and protesting has convinced me.

I'm going to trade in my gas guzzeling SUV and buy a Toyota Prius.

some days Id welcome it

There are massive amounts of oil deposits in Canada. Hell the oil sands in Alberta have barely even begun to be tapped. Plus with the huge amounts in the Arctic and East Coast, but I guess Ive just been fooled by the right wingers and havent seen the light yet

We will NEVER run out of oil. It’s a simple matter of economics. At some point the oil will be too expensive to tap for distribution in today’s quantities. The general public won’t be able to afford it, and demand will go down accordingly. There will always be some petroleum, but cost will keep it from being the transportation giant it is today. Other fuels will be developed. Gasoline is still the best bang for the buck and is the best transportation fuel for many reasons. It will remain the same for at least my lifetime.

BTW I work for the company above, and they are putting 3B into the local plant to process oil from the Alberta Canadian tar sands (finally profitable due to today’s fuel prices). Those reserves alone are enough to fuel the US’s fuel needs for several decades.

Granted its not the majors (BP, Exxon, Shell, etc) but I did find 2 major segments taking losses in the 1986, 1992, and 1995. Namely the independant companies. Most likely due to them being in fewer segments of the industry combined with the low prices of gas. The majors were also taking a loss on gas sales, but were able to be profitable due to their involvement in other segments of the industry.

FWIW.. I'm a second year student at Montana Tech in the Petroleum Engineering program. I'd say that there is no chance of running out of petroleum reserves in 4 years. Mainly since we can't even drill all of the known reserves in the next 4 years, without finding any new reserves or coming up with new technology to make current non-recoverable or non-profitable known reserves, recoverable and profitable.

Right now we are producing oil in areas that not even 5-7 years ago we thought were dry or where we thought the oil was so trapped in porous structure of the rock it was unrecoverable.
