It was way wrong for me but other claim it was spot on for them.
I've never even traveled any further west than Oklahoma City one time on a road trip.

Like Midland, Western is a default, neutral, sounds-good-on-the-evening-news accent. So you might not actually be from the West (but you probably are).

You have a Northern accent. That could either be the Chicago/Detroit/Cleveland/Buffalo accent (easily recognizable) or the Western New England accent that news networks go for.

Wrong for me. I'm west coast baby.
What American accent do you have? (Best version so far)
Midland
("Midland" is not necessarily the same thing as "Midwest") The default, lowest-common-denominator American accent that newscasters try to imitate. Since it's a neutral accent, just because you have a Midland accent doesn't mean you're from the Midland.

Northeastern
Most people don't know it but this is actually what dictionaries are based on. If you don't believe me, pick up any American dictionary and look up "source" and "sauce" and you'll see they are written with the same vowel pronunciation.

Not really a big surprise--although I've spent most of my life in the South, I don't have much of an accent. There are three times when I have an easily discernable southern accent:
1) I'm really tired
2) I'm really mad
3) I'm slightly intoxicated (which is extremely rare)

My Results:
Southern
People used to hate Southern accents but now everyone wants one.
Mine was southern, which is exactly right.
If anybody here ever heard me talk, they would know why.
I try not to type on here like I talk though to at least sound a little intelligent.
