Insurance/Liability question

My wife was in a 3 vehicle accident the other day. She was stopped at a red light with an older model F-150 in front of her. My wife was rear-ended by another lady in a Volvo, which pushed my wife's mustang into the rear of the pickup.

My question is... Who is liable for the damage to the truck?

The lady who plowed into her is at fault for the accident and should be held liable.

It depends what state your in.

Some states, You can only seek reimbursement from the actual vehicle that did the damage to yours.

It is quite possible that the F150 insurance company might seek payment from yours, which in turn will require your insurance company to go after the Volvo's insurance company for damages to your car and the F150.

I know this sounds lame, But I can honestly say that this is how things work in Ohio.

I was involved in a multi-vehicle crash in 2005. Our court date is in January of 2008.

As of this date, no insurance company has paid out any money to any of the other parties involved. " This is why I will always have full coverage. "

If the F150 files a claim with the Volvo's insurance and gets paid you wont have a problem, But if the insurance company wont pay?????

Who knows.

She might be ticketed. I remember reading a story in town where someone was ticketed for being too close.
Not if they were stopped at a red light.

I agree with POdunk. It depends on state, city, county ordinances.

It is quite possible that the F150 insurance company might seek payment from yours, which in turn will require your insurance company to go after the Volvo's insurance company for damages to your car and the F150.
However, your insurance company will probably not consider you responsible. So I doubt your rates will increase, or etc. But as CrAz3D said, this could be a possibility. But, I doubt it.

I was involved in an accident in oct of 05. A guy was dwi and passed out. He hit me head on. It was his obvious fault. Still took almost a year to reimburst me for damages, medical, etc.

By the way, my wife drives on 01 mustang. What were the damages too the car? Was your wife injured badly? Just asking because my wifes 17 weeks pregnant, and I 'm wanting to know how much of a death trap this car is.

Damage to the 'stang was quite minimal, actually. It's an '05, though. I have no idea how an '01 would hold up in the same situation. The volvo was messed up enough that it was leaking fluids from the engine bay and had to be towed. The owner of the F-150 "claims" that the impact pushed his entire bumper down... at an angle if you will.

My wife wasn't hurt at all. No airbag deployment, even (which kinda concerns me).

Damage from the ball of the truck to the front bumper of the 'stang...

Rear scrapes and gouges from the Volvo...

Pushed the rear bumper out of alignment...

Yes, I know the car is dirty. Bigger issues are afoot than giving the car a bath

Yes depends on the state, here it is always the last persons fault. Exception are, if you rear end someone then some one rear ends you...... if they hit you soon enough (bangbang) you can play the I was pushed card. but if iit's bang.............................................. .................................................. ...............................bang then probbaly not.
