Anyone else have a tradition like this

That was the exact thing my Mom always had in our stockings.

My mom WAS a fruitcake! JK, no she wasn't.

I've never actually tasted a fruitcake but I've seen them and they give me the heebie-jeebies. I don't like the Spumoni Icecream or maraschino cherries so I'm guessing I wouldn't much care for fruitcake.

My parents gave us nuts one year in our stockings. They quickly turned into weapons and were thrown at my other brothers. We haven't gotten them since. We also got fruit one year, like an orange or something. That was followed with a "what the hell is this crap?" comment. On a side note, mom did give out pencils and junk one year for Halloween. :o

I do remember getting a mandarin or two in my stocking one year but I was far too nice to say anything negative. I'm sure I had the "wtf is this?" look on my face as I said, "Oranges.... wow...... um, cool"

One thing my mom ALWAYS put in our stockings were those Lifesavers books and that's someting I HAVE to put in my boys' stockings. I think we probably still have like 4 boxes laying around somewhere.

Ah yes, my wife's favorite Holiday story.
The stockings were a tradition in her family, not mine.
After we married and had kids she did the stockings with candy/fruit/nuts and I really didn't notice what was going in there. I mentioned to someone once that "Christmas just kinda happens." meaning she did it all. She repeats that quote every year.

Anyway, one year she calls me and says to pick up candy and nuts for the kids stockings.
I came home with big Snickers bars and a can of beer nuts.
She tells everyone that too, like I was supposed to know about hard candy and nuts in the shell.

She also hung out stockings for me and her. On Christmas morning there was always stuff in mine and she was getting an empty.

I eventually figured out that she wasn't going to fill her own stocking and it was my job.
One year I got creative, the stocking is shaped like a foot.
Shoe inserts are shaped like a foot, it's a no-brainer.
Now, every Christmas I have to listen to her tell someone about the year I got her Oder-Eaters. It was my bad luck that I also put some Bianca breath spray and deodorant in there.
I was just grabbing stuff at the drugstore that would fit in the sock, sue me!

We've been married 30 years. I've been stuffing her stocking for about 20-25.

The kids are out of the house now. This past weekend we got our tree and decorated inside and out. This is the first year I've done it without grumbling.
She noticed that and mentioned it.

And I'm sure the goats appreciate it too!

My mom made up her own recipe because she hated all the recipes she found. Hers is awesome!
