Not a Jetta, but my GF has an '03 TDI Bug. We got 52 MPG highway driving from Phoenix to Vegas. She fills up once every 2-2 1/2 weeks

I agree but you show me an average sized Non-hybrid that gets that kind of mileage with the reliability.

Reliability and VW don't always go hand in hand... the car may get great gas mileage, but the windows won't roll down and the interior dash lights all go out!

Blame VW's quality issues on NAFTA & Mexico where they are made cheaply!.......

So all VW's have bad window motors and blown dashlights? That hardly constitutes unreliability. F150's windows fall down and spark plugs break. Does that make them unreliable?

Check into the electrical problems with VW before making your decision. I'd rather drive a Honda, Nissan, Toyota etc that gets 40 mpg and doesn't have the problems a VW has. MPG isn't the only thing you should look at... just my .02.

i don't have the tdi, but i do have a 2007 VW Jetta Wolfsburg 2.5l - got it last may- the thing runs like a champ- 6 spd tiptronic. not a single issue to date on it- dealt with snow, dirt roads, torrential rains, and 105 degree weather without breaking a sweat. 24mpg city with a heavy foot and sport mode, 33mpg highway.

oh, and it's been to montana and back 3 times now---that's 2450 miles per leg.

No, but ranking at or near the bottom of EVERY single study in reliability and customer service does.

I'd trust a 3 year old Hyundai to get me cross country safely more than a brand new VW.

This maybe true. Do you have any links to these studies? Im not second guessing you Its just that some solid information would be great.

None of them make a diesel. VW's TDI is bulletproof, 300K isn't out of the norm for those engines.

My dad has had three of the new VW Bugs, the last two being TDI... So far, no problems at all. His current one has leather, heated seats, sun roof and more leg room than my F150. Pushing it,he can get 50-51 mpg, but he does have the 5speed. On the interstate, he says the mpg does go down after about 75...down to 48 or so. My truck is locked at 14.9...even at the differecne in fuel prices, I may start driving his bug soon.
