That's what I thought... they are fast... but are no different than any other gas guzzling SUV out there.

depends on what you need it for. Ill admit yes, the edge is very quick for what it is, the escape is definitly not as fast, but my escape is not going below 20MPG with probably over 50% suburb/stopping driving. Best ive gotten is 24MPG and the lowest being 20, which was the first fillup. The backseat is bigger in the edge, but the tailgate is bigger in the escape. I think the escape is a better deal. Better priced, better mpg, and its a true SUV, with the edge being a "crossover". I dunno. I wish i had a medium level edge when i got to test one. If the edge didnt get **** MPG for what it is, i woulda been ALL over that. It was VERY comfortable, and the little things like the sync and the reclining rear seats were sweet. The escape is definitly a good vehicle tho. easy to drive. Not as much power as the edge, but with the v6, its decent.

I got the wife an Edge back in August (FWD). I'm mixed on the mpg. I've noticed that on the highway in cruise control we'll get 22-24 mpg and local driving is much lower. We average 18-19 mpg mix with probably a 50/50 split city/hwy.

It is a damn nice vehicle. We got every option except AWD and navigation. Stickered for $32k or $33k and we drove away for about $31k on a 2007. If you can get a great deal on the one you are looking at I would go for it. Definitely go AWD if you get alot of snow. We got more snow in STL than we have in well over a decade and we had problems, but we were getting 8"-10" a pop.

P.S. the wife loves the Vista Roof.

They love it. It's got tons of room for what they need and you can fit adults in the back (even tall ones) comfortably.
They got every available option except the AWD. It's damn nice. It drives nice, handles pretty good for what it is, and it can get up and go if need be.

Well, it depends on where you live, and how you drive.

I live in Dallas/Fort Worth in a metro area of nearly 6 million people. That equals a s**tload of cars & trucks in a "relatively" small area. That means we have terrible traffic.

In this terrible traffic, stop & go, and red lights every 50 feet- I'm getting about 15 - 16 MPG. This is a 2 - 3 MPG improvement over my 2006 Acura MDX.

If you live in a rural area, or a city that's not as heavily populated, you gas mileage will be better.

On the highway though, the Edge sips fuel like a lady, and will net 24-25 MPG all day long, at 75-80 MPH. I get this on hilly I-20 in Eastern Texas/Western Louisiana. If you live in a flat state (Kansas) you might see 30 MPG!

I have the 2007 Edge SEL-Plus, FWD. I'd expect the AWD version to not lose very much MPG, when you consider the fact that most of the time, although it says its an AWD, it's moving as a FWD, just like my MDX did. Unless the systems are drastically different, the only time all 4 wheels should be pulling is when the road is slippery and the system detects wheel spin, and under hard accelleration.

The system itself should put too much of a burden on fuel efficiency.

You gotta remember- this V6 is no punk... It's got more HP than the old (1997 -2003) 5.4L V8 used to have. No 4-cylinder variant is offered, yet. Well, unless you want a CX-7.

My parents have the dark amethyst or something like that. That sweet-*** black/purple color that came on the HD trucks. I see that it's not available for 2008 on the Edge anymore.
Neither is "Sage".

The color we have. I saw a baby blue one today...

I don't think I like that color on the Edge...

But man, that copper is off the hook.

I wouldn't mind getting a base model Edge in that color to replace the F-150. I'll drive it, and let the wife take the loaded one.

We've gotta take a look-see at that GMC Acadia and it's Buick/Saturn twins before we decide.

I wonder what the insurance would be on a 2009 Mustang GT.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I'm trying to keep my options open. I really want a new Sport Trac but I can't see taking it in the back side non-greased when I drive it off the lot and it instantly depreciates 10 grand. You cannot find a used one around here either. I live in northwestern Pennsylvania so I need either 4wd or AWD. My dealer has one used 07 Explorer but to tell you the truth, I'm Explodered out after having mine for 6 years. Time for something new.

I think the Edge might fit the bill. My dealer has a load of them used with less than 20,000 miles. Half of those the salesmen are driving and were bought new by the dealer. I didn't know it had a reclining rear seat. That would be a good thing for my youngest step-son who is 6'1" at 17 years old.

Hersh - I live in a rural area with a little over 20 mile commute one-way each day. It's a nice 2-lane road that's pretty flat. It takes me 2 minutes to get to the 2-lane road from my house and then it's cruise control at 59 mph the rest of the way (yes I know, I drive like a woman). I think I might be able to bust out a 20 mpg average.

Ok, time to go surf the dealer on-line inventory.

The new Sport Trac is a sharp looking vehicle.

If you'd like a Sport Trac, I don't know why you wouldn't consider an F150, especially since it probably gets better mileage (or at least the same) as a Sport Trac. You'd also be getting A LOT more interior and exterior space.

yeah unless you want a smaller gas tank, a sport trac aint anything special VS a screw. Dont get me wrong, sport tracs are nice, great vehicles, but with gas prices and fuel economy hype, itd be more worth it to get a screw with a teaneau cover.

That is exactly what happend with me. I was interested in a Sport Trac but the mileage was essentially the same and I liked the F150 more after looking over them both at the dealer. It helped that I saved over 9k from MSRP on the F150. I don't have a screw though I have a scab.

Trust me, I would love to go supercrew. But, we already have an 06 f-150 SC 4x4 and I can't fit both in the garage. I realize the new V6 in the Edge makes excellent power but I could have done with a little less horses and a little better mileage. You can't beat the old 4.0 that has been in the explorer since the beginning of time. I need to get off my butt and start test driving some things.

Ideally, I wanted to go with a Sport Trac with a Leer cap. Kind of like an Explorer but I would be able to chuck dead things in the back (deer, pheasants, turkeys, wife .....)

If you get a used AWD one some of them have issues with the transfer case leaking the fluid out. Not overly common but something to watch for.
