Question Ford Edge mpg???

I know a few of you guys have the new Edge and have commented on the gas mileage. It's time to punt the old 02 Exploder and I'm looking to get into a slightly used Edge through my local Ford dealer who has about 15 of them (used and new).

My question is, what are you guys getting for mileage on the AWD models? I've read a few times on here about the poor gas mileage. Quintin mentioned that a few of his customers commented on the poor mileage, roughly 16 mpg for the AWD. I usually get between 17 and 20 in the Explorer depending on the time of year. I was hoping to go up in mileage or at least stay the same instead of going down.

They seem pretty nice and I can get into one loaded with less than 15,000 miles for about $19,000.

Any help or comments are appreciated.

Comment: I think the Edge in grabber orange looks sexy as hell. There's one outside my class window right this second!

It's got worse gas mileage than my F150. But it can whip my F150's tailgate right off...

My parents have the 2wd version and they get between 18 and 21. It'll go up as the engine breaks in. They're nice cars.

I wanted my parents to get one... but they didn't want to fork out $40k on a Ford.

I wish they would've gotten a F150 CC... that Compass is, blah.

It's called blazing copper. Grabber orange is a Mustang color.
My parents have the dark amethyst or something like that. That sweet-*** black/purple color that came on the HD trucks. I see that it's not available for 2008 on the Edge anymore.

The dealer gave an orange one as a loaner one day. It wasn't loaded but did have leather seats and chrome wheels. I don't know if it was 2wd drive or not...it did not have a switch or anything on the dash to indicate it was 4wd but the thing wouldn't even bark a tire on take off. It seemed to be pretty nice, however it was difficult to see behind and the blind spots seemed to be rather large. I know in the day and half that I had it I used a lot of gas but I was getting on it a lot. All in all if the wife was looking for something new we would have to take one into consideration.

The dealer has a red one with charcoal leather interior. It has just over 8,000 miles on it. The sales manager's wife drove it while she was waiting to get her new EB Explorer in. They want $23,000 for that one but I bet it stickered for 36 or 37, hell maybe more.

I just wish there was a tick more room behind the back seats.

Has anyone who has driven one noticed any bad blind spots? I've been researching them and that seems to be an issue with some people.

Oops, didn't see dkstone's comments on the blind spots. Thanks.

I don't find the blind spots to be much of an issue when I am driving my parents car. It's something you'll get used to quickly.

i had an edge for a weekend some time before i got my escape, and the vehicle was very nice. The one i had was loaded with a lot of options, awd config, only got 15-17 mpg.

According to the new EPA ratings, JBMX is bang on. Look at the 3 Edges that were submitted by people that own them. They averaged 15.9 mpg:

Interesting website. I do probably 75% highway and 25% stop & go. I wonder if I could squeek 19 to 19.5 out of it. 2 minutes and I'm on a nice 2 lane highway to work, just about 46 miles round trip. Once I hit the highway, I set the cruise at 59 mph the whole way.
