I wouldnt do anything specifically to try and get economy out of the truck. There are a hand full of things that can help, but by the time you recoupe the savings you didnt really get anywhere.

example lets say you spend 200 bucks on your exhaust. And it gains you 1% fuel economy. You will be gaining 2 cents per gallon. So it would take you 10,000 gallons before you start making money back.

So do mods because you enjoy the benefits of them, not because you want to reap the benefits.

I saw biggest MPG gain from lowering and from E-Fans. I got 1/2 and 1 mpg gain respectively. I havent data logged enough miles on the red truck to know if ive gained anything from doing the snugtop.

My truck got squirrly once. I was in an oil spill and didn't know it.

I used to get real squirrly in my 54. I would come off the line, then hit the nitrous. If I did it too soon, I would be looking at the curb. Lots of fun!

My thing is i do just local driving, most city, not much highway. I want 20s, but I don't want to tank in mpg's. I would run them for spring summer and fall, then put the stockers on for winter. I want the Dip 04 wheel, but with the mpg losses that you guys talk about, I wonder if 18s would be a better choice.

That makes sense Pat. My dad doesn't like the idea of E-fans

That is what I was going to say, Patrick. You will never be able to get the money back that you spend to get mpg.

John, it sounds as if you are pretty much where I was. My truck from the factory got great mileage. Near 17 around the Metroplex and 19.2-19.4 on the highway. I now have it down to 14.7-14.9 around the Metroplex and 18 on the highway. But, I do not drive for economy, I like to go. You just have to decide if you want it to look good or get good mileage or another way to put it, how much mileage are you willing to give up for how you want to look and perform.

I saw the biggest increase in mileage by buying a F-250.

Zach, I am finally going to bite the bullet and tune the truck once I get the injectors fixed. I am not going any where near as extreme as you did but I cant take it anymore.

Good point guys. I really want the 20s so I might as well make myself happy. I will take a bit of a loss, but my driving may lessen the blow. If I can still get 15-16 city I would be happy. I think I'll just do that. The gryphon will be a nice addition as well. How come the Gryphon would not help my mileage though if I did get an economy tune?

Because, everytime you take off, you will want to feel that surge in the seat of the pants. Everytime some pokey driver is in front of you, you will want to blow his stuff in the weeds. If you can overcome that, then yes, it will make a difference. I get to feel that power boost with no loss in mpg, so I was content with that.

And Blue, is there anyway to make a poll for the exhuast thread I made. I made one in another site that people can click on, but can we make on in the acutal thread like TOTM?

What type of tune? My 6.0 buddy says anything Edge is safe for your stock headgaskets, but if you put the SCT on it you can kiss em goodbye. On the plus side, his studded and EGR deleted 6.0 sounds a lot more like a 7.3...
