That is about the only benefit from extra body insulation, if you get my drift.

He got the wild hair one time to bolt together the various engine parts he had laying around and build a screaming 289. He didn't repaint any components, they went together as they were. When he finished, the heads were different colors, the water pump was white, of all things, and the valve covers, one silver, one blue.

He found a 65 Falcon hardtop for $100. We prepped it and painted it white with orange rally stripes. The only thing I remember him buying for it was one of those built 4 speed top loaders that was fully syncronized. It had a narrowed 9" with 5.11. He would come off the line at 7000 rpms, grabbing gears faster than you can imagine. He was in 4th halfway down the track, sounded like an automatic, the way he could shift. His best time was an 11.00 at Little River Raceway. He ran it for 2 years and then sold it. It was completely street legal, BTY, as he would drive it for Cruise Nights.

He quit his job maintaining a truck fleet and has started a restoration shop. Right now, he is working on a 52 Packard for a doctor. Just thought it was cool that a guy is making a living doing what he loves to do.
Good story Jim. Glad he is doing what he loves.

What you talking about. I'm the best when it comes to pick up 60' beams that weight in at 12,000# with the forklift. That's why I'm out there doing it. They don't trust anyone else when it comes to unloading these trucks that look like half to 3/4 million dollars.
