it could be a water temp sensor, or MAP sensor originally as well. MAPs are usually mounted on the back of the manifold like that. It could be a newer 454 that was FI with a MAP and converted to Carb.

Its a carbed motor, the fuely's didnt come out till later in these boats. I thought it to be a sensor once apon a time but the location doesnt make sense. There is nothing to measure/read there.

MAP sensors are usually on the back side of the intake, maybe a knock sensor?

I dont think it would be any kind of sensor. The motor is as basic as you can get, no computer

It's the bung for the EGR, it just hit me after staring at the picture. I remember replacing the EGR on my 305 and it was in the exact same spot.

I've seen alot of block off plates made and sold for them...but this is the first weld delete....
