Let's start over......
This heat is really taking it's toll. Wild fires, ponds and lakes drying up, 25% of the trees dying, grass dying, wild animals, livestock, crops gone, not to mention all the depression it causes. Hard on anything living. And, no end in sight.

I would say it's just the brake in period Jim, get a few more miles on it and see what happened. Every truck that my dad and I owned that had a 305 or 350 in it would burn a quart in 3000 miles it was just the nature of the beast. The last Suburban my dad sold had 260k on it and my 91 Sierra the odometer stopped at 160k and I am sure that when I sold it it was closer to 175k and both are still running today so I would not really all that concerned about it.

We never worried about it and changed the oil every 3000 which was about every two to three months because we put so many miles on the trucks. I would see where 4500 miles get you on oil consumption and if it's not much over a quart I would never worry about it until oil change time.
