The heads on it were redone for bigger exhaust/intake valves also, plus they were ported....

Those old 350s, 383s and even the 400s could be very strong runners. I used to have a ball racing some of the Chevy IIs and the Novas but my most fun was a kid in a 66 Chev pickup with a 454. That little Cleveland would eat his lunch. Had a lot of fun running a guy that had an 86 T Type Buick. He would get me so far off the line that it looked like there was no way I could catch him. About 3/4 down the track, I would blow by as he ran out of engine on the top end.

This Vette had a Lingenfelter built 400 in it. He would beat me about 3 car lenghts everytime. Of course, he was my boss, so I always claimed I let him win. He still has that thing.

The best motor I ever uses for racing was an olds 425 with a quadrajet on top....I had that in the Pontiac for a season.....the only thing that was competitive at that point was that older hemi's .....I've still got that motor in storage

Those old Olds engines were sleepers. They could run. I liked the 455s. I knew better than to challange those Hemis. There was a guy with a 67 Plymouth with a hemi. What was it, a 426? That thing was fast.

The nice thing about the olds motors is hardly anything needed to be done with them....you just had to find one....

There was a guy in Abilene that had a 58 Ford pickup with a 383 hemi with 8 two barrels on it. That was the wildest setup and linkage I have ever seen. That thing would burn the tires off.

When I turned 17 I got a Trans Am with a 400 in it. My parents would fret every time I took that car out and I never understood why. Now that Im older and a lil wiser I see why. I dont know how I never crashed or got a ticket in that thing

4V heads, Direct Port injected, can't remember if that engine has VVT.

Also not sure on Ford's version of the 5.0 but the N/A "LR" version has VVL as well...
