Ok, I googled. I have no idea how they accomplish that, or why it helps.

VVT think of spark advance on steroids, its changing when the valves open (early more power) (later better fuel economy)In relation to the stroke of the piston. You can squeeze more power on acceleration, and "detune" the engine during coasting/braking for more economy
the 3v 5.4 have VVT (cam phasers)

VVL is the best of both worlds as well, you can have a nice low lift cam at idle that produces smooth nice idle that "momma" likes, and then switch to highlifting cam that produces the higher power numbers that "daddy" likes. With the same camshaft installed

Interesting, except Momma likes a good lopey cam in my case.

Although I normally prefer the silver and black HDs, this one is certainly an eyecatcher.

HARSH 1-2 SHIFT BELOW 24 KM/H (15 MPH), HARSH DOWNSHIFT SHIFTS - FLARE ON UPSHIFTS - BUILT ON OR BEFORE 4/15/2011

ISSUE:

Some 2011 F-150 vehicles built on or before 4/15/2011 may exhibit a harsh 1-2 shift at or below 24 Km/h (15 MPH), harsh downshifts and/or a flare on upshifts.
ACTION:

Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the concern.
SERVICE PROCEDURE

Reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) using IDS release 75.03 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the VCM 2011.9 DVD. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraft.com.
Using the IDS tool, clear the transmission adaptive table - Select Tool Box, Powertrain, Transmission, clear Transmission Adaptives.
Perform adaptive drive procedure. Refer to Workshop Manual, Section 307-01 Diagnosis and Testing, Road Test - Adaptive Drive Cycle.

NOTE: PLEASE ADVISE THE CUSTOMER THAT THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN ADAPTIVE TRANSMISSION SHIFT STRATEGY WHICH ALLOWS THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER TO LEARN THE TRANSMISSION'S UNIQUE PARAMETERS AND IMPROVE SHIFT QUALITY. WHEN THE ADAPTIVE STRATEGY IS RESET, THE COMPUTER WILL BEGIN A RE-LEARNING PROCESS. THIS RE-LEARNING PROCESS MAY RESULT IN FIRMER THAN NORMAL UPSHIFTS AND DOWNSHIFTS FOR SEVERAL DAYS.

Yes, thanks. I saw that yesterday. My truck was built Dec, 2010 and has the harsh shifts.
