I'm not trying to be biased but from the few 5.0's I've driven and the EB, I (personally) don't see much of a difference in daily driving between them and the 5.4, other than a few more MPG. I still feel the 5.4 has more pull below 2500-3000 RPMs than the EB or 5.0. If you gave me either one for a week to drive around and hook a load up to my opinion may change though.

You can't beat the way the new 150's ride and handle though

Part of what you're experiencing is also due to the way the 6r80 tranny is geared along with the shift points....plus on the new trucks, the pcms haven't completed the virgin drive cycle yet....

I have never driven a 5.4 with a 6 speed. I suspect it would be a much different experience from my 05. I think the 6 speed gives the 5.0 the quickness from a standstill but the little engine really pulls at higher speeds. Excellent passing at highway speeds that my 5.4 could do only after I added a tuner.

The 4.6 3v coupled with the 6r80 shares a lot of the same characteristics as the 5.0....

True, the 6 speed is a different animal. Plus most of the vehicles I drive still say "Transport Mode" on the display screen The EB and 5.0 I actually spent some time behind the wheel though had between 10,000-17,000 miles on them.

I've also spent some time driving Silverado and Ram 1500 and 2500's driving back to the dealership from auctions they didn't sell at ranging from 2003-2007's. It makes me appreciate my 04 150 a lot more, that's for sure.

I drove a couple 5.4 6 speeds but only a few miles so I can't really comment on them. I've been comparing everything to my truck. I noticed that in the 5.0. The first 5.0 I drove was a 2013 straight off the shipping truck. I nailed it at 40mph and it threw me back in the seat and took off. My 5.4 will take off if you nail it but it's not throwing you back in the seat

Yeah the 5.0s are nice for sure. I dragged my brother once and it was close and I got in front but his truck is a super crew and 4wd

Morning.

I got a chance to drive a rental F150 with the 5.0 while I was in Tacoma and I was very impressed with it. The thought of giving up my diesel crossed my mind during the week I spent driving it.

Not long term yet, but I have 46,000 on mine and still purring right along. Just routine maintenance.
