Let's start over......
I thought about going with the mesh gutter covers, but a neighbor of mine put them on his house a few years ago and found out that a lot of the pine needles still managed to work their way through. While the guards seemed to delay the amount of time between gutter cleanings, you still ended up having to do it and then you had to remove the guards just to get to the debris. I would imagine they might work better with the broader leaves of the deciduous trees you have, but with the pine needles they are less effective.
I also looked into installing the clog-free gutters that you see advertised, but about fell over when I saw how much they cost to do my whole house! The only way I could have justified the cost would be if I had a heavily-treed lot, but with mine, all I have to battle are the needles from my neighbors pine trees.
I suppose this means in about two years I'll start a thread about all the drawbacks to only having gutters on the front elevation of your house.....
