Let's start over......
Got a shiny new 4WD actuator. A few weeks ago, I heard a rattling, popping noise coming from the driver side front tire area. The noise was really painful, lol. Thanks to the videos posted by maculoko (the member here that always posts those really thorough repair videos), I was able to self diagnose. First I checked all the vacuum lines and they were strong. Then I jacked up the front end, and when spinning the tire with the truck running, I could see the hub was still engaged because the CV axle was spinning with the tire when the truck was supposed to be in 2HI. Turned out to be actuator failure. Took it to the dealer and they replaced it under the power train warranty
Then I brought it home and replaced the rear brake pads. Almost 50k miles and they were getting low. Truck is good as new now and running great! Next on the list is spark plugs.

My twelve year old hand-me-down riding mower is on its last leg. It needs repairs now that are going to cost me more in parts alone than the mower is even worth, so I have decided to get a new one. However, I am having a really hard time paying $1700-$1900 for a piece of crap mostly made out of plastic.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a decent quality, economical 42" riding mower? I'd really like to be in the $900-$1200 range.

Instead of going "new" you can keep looking on Craig's list for a "good" comercial unit that has a few hours and limited use...
My BIL found a 10 year old 48" JD 4 wheel steer for $500 with only 100 hours on it....the only thing the cemetery used it for was to mow 8 strips by the road...rest was push mowed....it was like this one.... http://www.tractorhouse.com/listings...edDeskTop=True
