need a new knife

sup guys, I'm in the market for a new knife. I work unarmed private security third shift downtown so I'm on the streets a lot dealing with homeless nam vets and stuff. right now I carry a gerber gator clip combo that was given to me by a good friend. its seen better days tho. my main gripe is it cannot be opened at all with one hand. I'm looking for a nice tactical knife. preferably black on black. under 5" closed blade longer than 3" and one hand open is a must. I tend to like the tanto style combo blades.. for obvious reasons.

eBay typically has better prices than "list".

Carry a CQC-11 now, I still have my Commander, next one will probably be a Super.

I've always been partial to the SpyderCo knives. Whatever you get try to find something with the torsion assist. I have a cheap Kershaw that I carry that has the torsion assist and the thing is quick. You just start the blade and it snaps open. There are many manufacturers offering these SOG, Kershaw, CRKT, etc....

My brothers neighbour is X Navy Seal. He has a slick black knife. The blade shoots straight out of the handle with the press of a button and back in with the same button. It is like nothing I have seen before. He said it was Navy Seal issue. You may be able to find something like it.

Those are illegal to carry in most states. Not to mention they typically do not have a very strong blade attachment to the body of the knife (lots of wiggle).

I had seen one of those. The blade was about 1/2 as long as the handle. looked disproprotionate. Like the other guy said, not a very strong spring & it flexed a bit.

I love the Emersons. robust blade, sure one-hand opening & the wave feature that opens the blade if you drag it back out of your front pocket really works well. (depends on some pants. Carhartts don't seem to work as well). Interesting history of the guy. Used to do a lot of Specwar special order stuff. His first try at mass manufacturing was with Benchmade (I think). I still have one of those around.

OTF (out the front) Double action Microtech Ultratech. The slickest double action OTF made. The firing mechanism is so strong, it has been demonstrated to be hammered through a 2x4 in the open position and still function perfectly. I have owned several of these, sweet a$$ knives. Price range $225-$375 5" handle, 3.3" blade Here is a video that will give you an idea of the operation of the knife.

This is what I carry. A Microtech Socom Tanto. One sturdy knife. 5" handle, 4" blade. (the one in the middle) I got this one for $210

If you are in the market for a knife that will last you many years of hard use, google Microtech Knives. They are worth the money

CRKT M16-04Z/14Z Excellent knife for the price. I'm on my second one (first one was stolen), both held an edge very well, easy to open, and has a big, thick blade.

How well does your Ken Onion hold an edge? Mine is horrible, I think I could have better luck keeping a stick sharp.
