Info on service contracts

I had my 2005 FX4 in the dealer for a check engine light. Turns out the manifold runner control is bad. My service contract will not cover this repair. Ford wants 550.00 to fix it. I called the corporate office this morning and found that only a comprehensive plan will cover some emissions issue. ONLY SOME. The preferred plan covers none. Beware and ask questions when considering a service contract. Don't assume(like me) that, just because the dealership selling you the contract says it covers everything, that is really does. I'm canceling my contract tommorrow. The guy I talked to didn't seem to care all that much. The company I am with is zurich. They are probably all about the same. Thats the impression I got from this guy. Good luck you all.

If your state has emissions testing for an inspection sticker, Ford is required to make the vehicle pass testing for 100,000 miles providing the owner hasn't modified the components. If you have a different dealer in your area, I'd go there. If necessary, get the Ford area rep involved. You service contract has nothing to do with it, this is a Ford issue.

Nothing is covered for 100k, I don't know where you heard that. Everything is covered 2/24 and some parts are 8/80 you can check here.

Shelad, you are right, Ford does offer detailed information about what their ESP plans cover, but you have to ask for it, you can't depend on your sales person. Third party plans are notoriously difficult. If you can't get detailed information, walk away.

ANY EMMISSION item is supposed to be warrantied for 8 years or 80k miles... This is some 'federal' thing as I understand it....

My wifes 2003 RAV 4 that we bought used 2 1/2 years ago with zero warranty had a check engine light come on and it was for the cat converter... We were on the road in another state when this occurred and pulled into the nearest Yota dealer and they said they would replace it for FREE, but they didn't have the part in stock and it would be a day or two before they could get it... Well, we couldn't wait and had to get back on the road, and it was not an issue that would have prevented driving it, so they contacted our local Yota dealer and arranged an appointment for us to go there when we got home and they did the cat replacement for FREE...

If it's truly an emission part, then it should be covered up to 8 years or 80k miles...

Here's the law concerning Emissions warranty. You should be covered under Design and Defects.
