Lightbulb Any New York residents? Open up your wallets!!

The Governor of NY has some great new ideas for drumming up some money for their failing economy that includes 88 new taxes and fees including:
#
An "iPod tax" that charges state and local sales tax for "digitally delivered entertainment services" - in other words, that new Beyonce song you download.
#
State sales tax at movie theaters, sporting events, taxis, buses, limousines and cable and satellite TV and radio.
#
Costlier driving with the repeal of the 8-cents-per-gallon sales tax cap on motor and diesel motor fuel, plus and increase in the auto rental tax.
#
Tuition increases at SUNY and CUNY, $620 and $600 a year respectively.
#
A 50 cent tax on cigars. The current tax is equal to 37% of the wholesale price, or 34 cents a cigar.
#
No more sales tax break on clothes and shoes worth $110 or less, except during two weeks a year.
#
Higher taxes on wine, beer and flavored malt beverages. He would also impose an 18% tax on non-nutritional drinks like soda.
#
The rich would pay more for luxury items through an additional 5% tax imposed on cars costing more than $60,000, aircraft costing more than $500,000, yachts costing at least $200,000 and jewelry and furs costing in excess of $20,000.
#
In addition, a host of a fees, including those related to motor vehicle licensing and registration, parks and auto insurance, would go up, as would various state-imposed fines

Open up your wallets. It's all going to be OK though once Obama gets into office. He's going to make it all better.

As if our gas wasn't high enough already. Btw that 18% tax on drinks is being titled as an "Obesity Tax".

The city doesnt have any money but we can re-name a bridge to Robert F Kennedy that cost a couple of million, go figure. Watch this Kennedy chick with no expereince become Senator b/c he is a dck rider.

Excuse my french but I'm pissed with all the crooked politicians.

As much as I hate to think our taxes might go up even more, I kind of like this guy. Remember though, he's not the problem. The state legislature has been spending like drunken sailors for years and don't want to cut spending. I think this is Govenor Patterson's way of getting the taxpayers pissed off enough to force the legislature to actually do what they should have done years ago - cut spending. Let's see if it works. Of course if it doesn't ...

The problem I have with all this is that the Governor is not proposing spending cuts in his own state as a whole. He is proposing a spending INCREASE; by 1% for the state as a whole. So rather than noticing te ledislature has been spending like drunken sailors and reigning in spending, he takes it upon himself to take more money in the form of taxes to cover it. This will keep happening until everyone gets pissed off enough and starts voting these idiots out of office.

They are taxing many "leisure" activities because people may not notice. He figured New Yorkers would continue these activites; such as manicures, massages, etc, so it was an easy tax target.

Every time I turn around something is going up and they are cutting services. Gas in NY is already taxed to hell but whats another tax on top of a tax. My property taxes went up $680 a year for the last 6 years except for last year, it went up $1000. Cant wait to see what it goes up this year.
