Hi southern neighbors, I always find myself telling other people (when complaining about our separatist gouvernment) that Americans would never take this type of crap from a gouvernment. This is the type of stuff that us english folks have to put up with:

1-No English signs or must be 60% less than french (the P.Q actually have language police that will fine you or threaten to take you to jail)

2-P.Q's #1 goal is to separate...

3-They changed the ridings to have votes in their favor (Federal had popular vote but P.Q got in)

4-This gouvernment is causing hate between french and english speaking people!

5-They have almost 900,000,000.00 in a bank account that the Federal gave. And they refuse to use it for our hospitals (Health care is so bad here, a 16 year old girl died from a broken arm in a hospital!!!).

6-They tell everyone that if they separate they will have a strong alliance with the U.S and Canada (the fact is Canada will not negociate after a YES vote)

7-They went to Sony and tried to sue them because their games are english only. Sony agreed to translate the games (now we english people are going to have to go to Ontario for games...)

8-Computer software in english is very very hard to find.

9-The P.Q will not let you put up an english site (they sued a business man for an english web site---Did not work because the server was in the U.S.)

I could go on and on but It would make a long post, just wanted to get this off my chest. I want to move out of this province ASAP. If Steve E. lived here in quebec, I'm sure the gouvernment would be on his back because the site is english only! So I ask you what would you do??

I'd let them separate.

If a city or state in the US wanted to do the same, this is what I would do. Cut off all federal aid. Charge them to use our roads. Charge them for every damned thing that goes across the borders. Everything that crosses that border suddenly gets slapped with an import/export tax.

Anybody crossing that border will be required to have a passport and visa. They want to trade, they need to sign a treaty. They get hit with a natural disaster, they have to pay first.

I guess the point I'm making is you don't become a part of a country, then decide you don't like it and decide to call yourself another country all of a sudden. Everybody gets something from being part of a bigger body. If you remove yourself from that body, then you ought to be willing to pay the consequences.

Americans would follow a long standing tradition of just letting things happen. Complacency will be the untimate undoing of the American Dream. Others fought for what we have, we will sit and watch as it is lost.

Just an opinion of an American Veteran. Everybodies got one, if you dont like mine, thats OK.

 

Feds would not let it happen for one reason -- MONEY. They would not loose all those tax dollars. California is the 7 largest economy in the world (that includes all countries in the world) and the Feds would not allow it to happen. I don't think Quebec could be self-sufficient, so unless they get Canada's blessing, I don't think it will happen. Some of the things you mentioned (language police) sound like **** Germany. I don't think the French have recovered from the beating the ****'s gave them in WWII. A lot of the French I met in France are arragant and distant, especially towards Americans. I think they wish they had more influence in the World and were a superpower. May be the same with the French in Canada.

Its funny when you compaired the PQ to ****, one reporter did this and the PQ or bouchard sued him for 200,000.00. Freedom of speech in quebec is non-existant. Unless your french and praise the PQ. Another thing to add to my bi***ing, the PQ owns all or most of the editors here in quebec. So when Charest (a federal, trying to get in as a premier--very good guy) tried to tell the facts about the PQ the press cut him off and ridiculed him about his curly hair.

Man I can't wait to move out, If it wasn't for some good people living here. I would wish that quebec would seperate and die! That way the rest of Canada will not be burdened by this dumb a** province anymore.

BTW not all the french are bad, my dad is french and he hates this PQ gouvernment too.

At work, I sit next to a guy from Quebec. He's moving his family down here so they can have some freedom. Most of his descriptions of the area politics are just like those of 4byFord's. Even worse when it comes to weapons possesion.

It just goes to show that we should be careful what we ask for... we might just get it.

Not only are the French pi$$ing off the rest of Canada with the language police, but the flow of beautiful French women to Ontario has slowed to a trickle...And I don't need dual language signs on the hiway telling me this exit/sortie is south/sud or north/nord. What a waste of money!
