Angry "No Haggle Dealerships"

Just wondering how other forum members are dealing with the obnoxious "no haggle" dealerships that seem to be proliferating at an ever-increasing rate these days.

I recently was in the market for a used pickup and encountered many of the no haggle variety. Initially, their first price quote seems lower than the standard dealership, but after the initial price they throw you, it's all over: no more haggling.

As soon as I hear the phrase, "no haggle," I tell them, "Bye," and walk out.

In talking with a salesman from a std dealership, he explained that since their competitor up the street went to "no-haggle" sales, their profit per vehicle rose over $800.

So...are the no haggle guys a good thing or a bad thing? What has been YOUR experience with them. Has anyone been successful in getting a decent "haggling" deal with these bozos?

About 5 years ago I bought a truck from one of these dealerships and I actually got a great deal but since then other dealerships have caught onto this gimmick and use it as one more way to screw the customer. I was at a local snowmobile shop that recently started doing this and I saw my identical sled but it wasn't in the greatest shape. My sled (98') cost 6000 new, I would sell it for 3500 right now, this dealership wants 5000 for the same sled! The sign on the sled said was 5300, now 5000, no haggle. Somebody is smoking some serious crack at that place! I'm thinking about asking them what they would give me for a trade in on my sled out of curiosity.

My experience has been negative as well. Fred Jones Ford, here in Oklahoma City, went to the "no haggle" policy a few years back. About a year and a half ago, they forced most of the other dealers in the area into that "Autocollection" crap. Once in a VERY great while, if they just happen to have what you're looking for, you can get a good deal. So far "no haggle" means no choice either. It's all take it or leave it and they've gone to some rather high pressure tactics as well. Seems like all of the "traditional" dealerships are seeing the benefit of this, though. These are the guys willing to order in vehicles and don't ride you about buying extended warranties, undercoating, and fabric protection. I won't do anything to help the "no haggle" bunch.

I see that you are not far from where I live.
I to have been to a few of those "no haggle" dealerships and always find myself walking out angry. No haggle to me means no sale here. The past few trucks I've purchased I was armed with internet invoice prices. Those no haggle dealers knowing I was correct on their invoices still did'nt move. And to boot they only would give me wholesale for my trade. All that came to an end when I purchased my first F150 last July. I went to Don LaFrenz Ford in Mason City IA. They were the only dealer willing to work with me on pricing. I baught my Supercab ORP for $400 under invoice and they gave me book retail for my 98 Ram that I had. They put about $1000 more in the deal than anyone else. And the day after I traded they sold my Ram. I recently ordered a 2000 Taurus from them and it was a similar deal. Invoice price, and they gave me more than book retail for my trade. Excellent dealership. And the service has been nothing but excellent also. (And no I do not work for them)

I'll drive right by a dealership that does this. It seems like these dealerships do this to test how dumb their customers are and what they can get away with. I was at my dealership about 6 months ago getting an oil change and while I was waiting I was looking around the showroom. Some sales guy starts talking to me and I told him that I had a 8 month old F-150 that I leased from them. He asked me how many miles I had put on it and I told him I had like 12xxx. He "suggested" that I park the truck adn buy a new one so I don't get screwed on my lease. I was about to start laughing because i thought he was joking but when I looked at him and he was dead serious! I just said "yeah right chief" and walked away from the idiot.

I paid $50.00 over invoice at a no haggle dealer through Autobytel.
No trade involved to cloud the deal just a straight buy.
Bob's F150 how did you get them to give you more than you paid for the RAM new (retail kbb values are often more than the truck costs new) while selling you the F150 $400.00 below cost?
Did you lease or put down a lot of cash?

My three experiences with 'no haggle' dealerships..have all been *GREAT*!! Autobytel has been great also!!

A good friend of mine at work also went to the same dealership I bought my 98 and 2000 F-150 from..and has also said GREAT! Each time..myself..and my friend were able to factory order the exact truck we wanted at dealer cost...nothing over at all.

I had to drive 90 miles one way to get the trucks..but hey..well worth it..especially when no one in this area would deal at all off of the sticker price for a new F-150 sitting on the lot!! (*^=*$%#^'s!!!!

No haggle SUCKS!!! I can't even begin to convey the extent to which it SUCKS!!!

FYI: Price is around $500 over invoice and your trade-in is always wholesale. Take it or leave it. PERIOD. Buy a Ch*vy, we don't care.

I really hope a good attorney will step forward with some kind of "price-fixing" collaboration charges and put these mega-no-haggle dealerships out of business. The only Autobytel dealer in OK is... Fred Jones in OKC (see SUCKS above). Tulsa area dealers refuse to accept "drop-shipments", so we're screwed because the only local dealer is Tulsa Auto Collection. Dealers within 50 miles know the "no-haggle" price and will beat it by $100. Take it or leave it.

Let me add...I went through the internet sales rep each time...I am sure the other sales reps would nickel and dime you to death.

If everyone had to put up with the butthole dealers that nomo and I have had dealings with, you'd change your minds about "no haggle" stuff. Fred Jones Autocollection and Tulsa Autocollection are LOWER THAN SCUM!! "No haggle" means no choice here. nomo, you just have to be willing to do some travelling for a good deal now. Bought my pickup in Apache and bought the wife's Taurus in Fletcher. Overall Ford in Jones is VERY competitive. Might keep them in mind next vehicle. It's a good haul from T-town, but probably worth it.

Well guys I am starting to enjoy the haggling. Have spent the last 10 days doing it. I am slowly working them down with the "well if it sells to some one else, it just wasn't ment to be" attitude. Boy they really hate that! It started off with the trade -in guy saying "well.. those modifications won't bring any more to the trade in value" I waited until he gave his price (book of course) and said well, if they aren't worth anything, you won't get em!" he says wel what do you mean? I say's "I am taking them all off". He says "what for?" I say "well because they don't mean anything to you so why should I give them to you? I would rather sell them or even give them away than see you get them!" He says nothing. Priceless! And guess what, I am taking them off. And after working them up over 10 days, another 1K has come off our deal and I am still taking the mod stuff off. Watch the classifieds you guys for some good deals!

54regcab:
I agree with you that kbb's prices for trade and retail are inflated. The book I am talking about really is not a book. The dealer is hooked up to the net and there is a site that only dealers can get into, they have a code and password. When in there they put in the vehicle and options like kbb and the system will search the country for what is the current value on car lots for that vehicle. NADA is also close to that price. When I baught the Ram I paid $500 over invoice for it because the quad cab just came out and I thaught it looked like a nice truck. Looks were only skin deep though. I traded in a 97 T100 for it and the resale on that was really poor. I ended up getting $24000 for my Ram and paid $24,200 plus tax, title, & License on the F150. My payment actually went down $20 a month from the Ram. A freind of mine baught my old ram for $24,500 so the dealer made money off both of us. $500 on the Ram and the remainder of his holdback on the F150 which was about $400. I did'nt lease or put a lot of money down, they are just a dealer that likes to sell in volume. They have outsold all other dealers in the area (any make) for the last 10 years, and they like to give good deals. Word of mouth advertising goes a long way.

I bought my '99 Flareside SC from Razzari Ford, Merced, CA...it was an Autobytel deal. This is the best time I have ever had buying a vehicle; Razzari Ford is excellent. I highly recommend Autobytel and Razzari Ford. I got a good price on the truck and they gave me what I asked for my trade-in. The paperwork was all done when I walked in the door; all I did was sign the papers and leave with my new truck. Very pleasant experience.

Future mods: 2/4 lowering, and some Roush stuff.
