Equal to Honda and Toyota

Equal to Honda and Toyota
First, I have always loved Ford my life and have owned 3 vehicles to this point of my life (only 24) two being F150s and a sunfire. Both of my F150s, I have felt to be above quality to anything else I have even drove. Everyone that has every enter either of my trucks have also been very impressed with the build quality and luxury features they have.
So anyway to my point, I was searching the Ford Canada website "www.ford.ca" today to see what is new out there. The very first thing to pop up on the home screen of the site was this, "Ford Quality. Equal to Honda and Toyota. This is Ford Today."
Now I am not saying Honda and Toyota are poorly built vehicles, the Honda Civic has been rocking the market for many years now and is still a great vehicle. My point is who says their product is equal to something else. You would never see a Toyota commerical sayings "Tundra Equal to the F150 and Silverado", "Coca-Cola equal to and just as good as Pepsi". Just seems like poor marketing to me.
Sorry just had to rant and get that off my chest and figure the people here would be the only ones to listen to me. Thanks!

I think they are trying to get through to people to let them know things have changed. Most people still hold on to the belief that Toyota and Honda are better (than Dodge maybe lol). Ford and Chevy have closed that gap and their cars and trucks will last every bit as long or longer.

I have to say that I bought my first import last August 2008 Honda Accord coupe I4. Im planning on this to last me 15 years, its a daily driver. I enhereted my wifes old Sunfire that lasted 13 years and this replaced it. That being said I like the car but Im not impressed with the car at all. I think the Ford Fusion will stand up to this car any day. I think Honda has to step up there game or they will be passed by others.

I understand Ford's thinking in this statement, but you wouldnt see another company state that they are equal to another. If they want to get people back, they have to get their attention. If they are equal there would be really not point in switching back from Toyota or Honda.
To me it just seems like a very odd or weak statement to make on Fords part.

The cost of replacement parts is also a factor. I have owned a couple of Toyotas and own one now and the parts are crazy expensive especially if you have to go to Toyota to get them. I just paid $260 dollars for a signal light switch assembly. It was all I could do not to take a swing at the guy.
If you can get the same quality for less money why wouldn't you switch?

Some people swear by them, some detest them.
For decades they have rated reliability of domestics below that of imports.
They recently announced that their findings indicate Ford has pulled away from the other domestics in terms of reliability and now equal Japanese imports.
That is what the Ford ad is refering to.
CR polls 2 million vehicle owners annually on various repairs/problems.
The only criteria is did you buy it new and are you the owner.
The data reflects an improved Ford product on the road. CR reported that and Ford advertising ran with it.
You are correct that it does sound odd or weak if the reference is not sited.
