Question Long Signatures-really necessary?

I realize I'm gonna catch some heat for asking this, but Grampa always said that "if you ain't steppin on some toes, you ain't dancin'!"
Is it really necessary for y'all to post such long signatures? Specifically, five or six pictures, a "wish list" over 10 items, or more than three links...these take time and bandwidth, and if the same guy posts three responses in one topic, it gets more than a little redundant. I realize it's not the end of the earth, but it gets a little tiring to scan past it. Believe me, if I'm not gonna look at it the first time, I won't look at it the ninth time...

All I'm asking for is a little courtesy for your fellow board readers. If I'm out of line, so be it...
Okay, let the flames begin...

It's called havin some fun. That is what this board is all about. We are all proud of our trucks, and we like to show them of. I probably have one of the longest sigs here, but really like it, and only post it once per topic. I have been here for two years, I think it's ok.

Cool

As mudder said, it's kind of an unwritten rule that you don't post your sig more than once in the same thread. In some cases, I don't post mine at all if it doesn't pertain to the topic. I agree that there are some pretty elaborate sigs here but personally, I like checking them out. Links to pics and stuff are even better. That's what this site is all about isn't it? Checking out other cool trucks like yours!

And now, my sig.

Cool

I agree with Mudder. Everyone should limit sigs once on each topic. It's doesn't make sense to post a sig EVERYTIME you respond on the same topic.

Long signature? Not me, I can barely write my name! Help me, hon, what's my name?
I have tuned out long signatures, I just lean on the scroll down button and don't look at them. But posting wide pictures, that make the whole topic go to a wide screen mode, does bug me. Its a hassle to scroll sideways back and forth. So I just hit the back button, and skip that topic entirely.

Question

Scroll down button?

I no longer have a '2' on my keypad and I only have one joint left on my middle finger.

I think I'm going to have to agree with OnBelay here. Some peoples signatures are a bit excessive. If you have that much to say, then I think you should create a web page and then put a link to it in your signature. Oh, and don't think people won't follow the link. I know every time I'm reading someone's post and its got a link to their home page, I check it out. See what cool home pages the other members have.

Well, the slowest I download at is 500 kbps so long signatures don't affect me all that much, other than having to scroll thru them. However, I can see where somebody who's on a dialup or traveling with a wireless modem could have issues.

I agree with Granpa. It's a pain in the a$$ when people link to a huge pic file. It causes the screen to go W-I-D-E and makes reading text a real drag (pun intended). I can just imagine how long it takes for some of these threads with huge pics in them to load with folks on dialup.

Here I go:
There is one sig here that will actually freeze my browser when I open a thread with it in there. He has like a whole webpage for a sig, (probably none of the graphics optimized) and no it isn't firezap.
I agree once per thread, and none bigger than mudder's or firezap's.

Hey Firezap where are ya?

I also agree about the "once per thread" posting. I like to see everyones sigs with their links and pics.

Question

So, it would be a problem if I post my sig twice in a thread?

I bet you are talking about JDm's sig, it's the longest here, no doubt.

ATST, you should have posted your sig.

FireZap and Steveo are about the same with me on the length.
