Gated Communities

There is a beautiful gated community that I drive past weekly, but the fence kind of reminds me of a zoo. It makes me wonder if the fence is to keep the animals in, or the animals out. Now I have my answer. The fence does neither.

Strange article.

Seems like the writer has some sort of agenda against gated communities, or some desperate desire to prove that he is somehow smarter and better than people who choose to live in gated communities.

Having grown up in the Midwest, I think the perspective of gated communities is much different back there than it is in the rest of the country. Back home in Minnesota, anyone who even put a fence around their yard was viewed as somewhat of an oddity (take a drive through any neighborhood in suburban Minneapolis and you will realize yard fences are extremely rare) much less fencing in the entire neighborhood!

When I moved to Texas, it seemed strange to me that every yard had a fence around it. "What are these folks trying to hide?", I wondered! Now that I've been down here over 10 years I'm used to it, but when I head back home to visit it now feels somewhat strange to sit in someone's back yard and look up and down the block and see everyone's back yard!

People whom choose to live inside a gated community may have issues. I could not imagine anyone telling me what color to paint my house or what kind of car should be in the driveway, when to cut the grass. the list goes on and on... We live in a free land why would anyone want to be behind a fence and told how to live??. To each thier own i guess.. Me i'll take the country anyday; the only fence i have is a sign that firmly states "private property" and they can decide what to do next.

We have quite a few gated communities in NWI. Some have houses that are up to a million plus.

The second richest one if located a few hundred feet from a landfill... I had to do brick work in the subdivision for a summer, it smelled like **** everyday, but somehow these people pay $500,000 for half a house in their

1) Protected property. White trash and other classless people can fup a community. They HAVE to mow their grass ect....

2) Choosing to live a certain way and abide by certain rules is a choice. You get to make yours, they get to make theirs. Freedom of choice.

3) Your way is not the best way for all...Although I digg your way, and will live in the country again someday.

Gated communities are a joke. Anyone who wants in can get in. Hell I can get the code in less than 10 minutes and waltz in. Unless there is a armed guard, its pointless. Just having a guard is dumb, I have sweet talked my way into gated communities quite a few times.

I did some work in a gated community a couple years ago. The entire community was a giant golf course and in the center of it was the club house. It was kind of strange and I don't think I would like the idea of people wacking golf ***** around my back yard within throwing distance of my house. The fairways went straight through yards right between houses forming sort of like a maze through the community. I guess you have to really like golf.

i live in a gate community. the main reason for the gats i was told is to cut down on traffic flowing on the street i guess just for kids. all our houses have fences but the reason was for our dog we used to have. when i lived up north only fences i did see were country style fences so you still could see thru it. suprisingly my neighbors seem cool, never get mad when i have my frame in the drive way working on it

im with buckdropper tho, id take the country over a neighborhood any day.

Is it just me, or does that not sound right.

98% of gate guards in Az are female, therefore, if you know how to talk to a woman......your in.

If that does not sound right to you, then #1 you cant sweet talk your way into a girls heart, let alone a guard gate and #2 live in the country with out gates with guards.

Most of the gated communities in my area do not have a guard - just a key pad for visistors (must know the gate code or get buzzed in by homeowner), and the home-owners get in with a remote control like a garage door remote.

While you may have sweet talked your way in, the guard probably got your license plate # and might have a pic of you on video. If a crime had been committed after you had 'sweet talked' your way in, they would have plenty of leads.

BTW, many gated communities have just one way in and one way out. Limited escape routes alone is a deterrent to some criminals. And if the homeowners can remotely shut down the outgoing gate if they observe a crime, the perp can get trapped in, or at least have to leave his vehicle behind.
