I guess I'm spoiled by living in NYC but I would take what ever was available just to get online especially here.

Broadband is so cheap now for basic packages usually 768 for dsl and 1.3-1.5 for cable. Most basic packages are between 25 and 35 a month, while dialup is at a medium price at 15. Just shell out another 15 for broadband.

We live in the country also, and a local ISP rolled out FIBER. Previously they only offered DSL in some areas. Even DSL wasnt available here. The PPoE fiber is so sexy.

For those of you who live out in the country and have dial up or sat.. Try checking into the EVDO High Speed stuff through you Cell carrier. I use it at home and really like it. A little pricey but the startup cost are lower than Sat. Most newer phones have the EV reception on your display. If you have 1 bar of ev consitantly it will be better than dialup and you can take it with you on trips too..

My basic is $8 per month and I pay $4 more for the ad blocker, so about $12 per month. It does everything I need at home. My only other option is about $50 a month. If I need to download anything that takes a lot of time, I do it at work where we have fiberoptic cable.

Comcast rips me a new one every month. Cable with HD + internet is crazy but I have not found another good solution.

I am using dialup at the moment but it's only because it's all I can get where I live
