Can I have a pistol

Im 18. Can i have a pistol with me in my truck? It was a gift from my dad, so it is registered to him. But as long as it is not in plain sight in the truck i should be okay right?

Laws vary from location to location.

You are going to tell us where you live.

You might also speak to a CCW instructor at your local shooting range. They are probably up on the local and state laws.

As Dirt Bike Dave said laws do vary. Check your local laws and see what they say. I would rather be safe then sorry.

He's in Texas. Being on a college campus may also have some bearing on the matter.

Yeah I am in Texas. I attend Texas a&m. I dont drive to campus so that isnt a problem. But going on road trips to football games and stuff I would like to carry it in my truck.

Having your truck broken into on a road trip would really suck if your dad's pistol get's taken by some criminals.

I knew someone who used to lock her pistol in her glove box when she was at work (supposedly secure parking lot at a hospital). This was a long time ago. Some punks broke in and stole her stereo and her pistol. Knowing some punk *** stereo stealing thugs have your pistol is a bad bad feeling.

If you are road tripping and have your university stickers on, you are probably at a slightly elevated risk for break-in/vadalism. Just something to keep in mind.

He wants it so he can shoot it off in the parking lot into the air, and show it off to all his friends. Just playing, i don't know how that would work if you ever got pulled over in another state and got searched and the cops found it and not registered under your name?

I know you want to carry it, just one question.

Can you tell me when you're allowed to use it? If you can't answer that question confidently, I'd suggest to leave it at home.

It isnt an intimidation object. Shoot to kill and only pull it out if you plan on shooting. As soon as you shoot you are opened up to law suits. Aim for the chest/head. If you aim for the leg you are trying to hinder them, not immediatly stop them.

Basically to answer your question. No, you can not carry it legally unless you have a consealed license. Get your consealed license it will teach you alot that you dont know and it will make it legal.
