dodge mega cab?

well guys i might be going to look at a 2007 ram 1500 mega cab 4x4 but i don't really know much about the dodge trucks. i do know that the 1500 mega cabs are on 2500 chassis so it has a straight axle. It has the hemi and only has 24k miles. Is there anything in particular that i should make sure to check for or anything to watch for on these trucks? the only real complaint i was able to find online was that the a/c performance was poor which isn't that big of deal. thanks guys.

i say dont do it i could maybe see doing it for the Cummins but it has a Hemi, Hemi's are over ratted and yes you are correct the A/C does not work very well the seats are very stiff an uncomfortable the interior is poorly Put together and IMO they look ugly

I wouldn't even think about owning a Dodge, their transmissions are always the weak points. I know Manual bough a used 3500 with a Cummins. Before he even got it home, the tranny went out.

Yeah, check to see if it's made by Dodge. If it is, try to stay away.

You've got that right... and you can read any Dodge forum for this... Dodge's AUTOMATIC transmissions suck.

I got that 2500 Diesel, and everything is great on it except for the automatic tranny.

I've got a Dakota with the v8 and a 5 speed NV3500 Tranny, and that thing is bulletproof.

Unfortunantly American automakers that make pickup trucks are no longer equiping them with manual transmissions.

I've seen people doing swaps on the 1500 with the Hemi using a NV5600 standard tranny and it pretty much makes the truck bulletproof.

I wouldn't say bulletproof, I have a friend who has a Dakota and it is on it's 3rd engine with less than 50k miles, and I have a cousin with a Hemi who has owned the truck for 18 months, 16 of which it has been in the shop for various reasons, all engine related.
In my experience, the tranny is the weak point (automatic), and they also have some serious rear-end issues. They are branded Dana, but they are made by a company that is subcontracted from Dana and just uses Dana prints, not necessarily the same quality, I have seen a LOT of them go out.
Just say this, beware if you buy a Dodge, you're going to have a lot of issues out of it. They do have the electrical wiring down a little bit better than GM, though, I can say that for them.

Manual, will you make up your mind? Does your Dudge have a MANUAL or an AUTOMATIC?

i wouldnt buy a dodge unless it was a diesel and manual transmission. the drive by wire systems they use screw up in a very dangerous way. i've got 3 friends now that i know of that have/had newer rams that whenever they hit the brakes the engine raises in rpm. and i've heard some complaints that the trannies overheat while towing. one of my buddies friends has a charger with the 5.7 and the dealership told him something like they have head bolt issues? something like the bolt heads pop off?
the dakotas are decent so far from what i've seen myself, but the 4.7 seems to love to suck down some gas, and they tend to warp the crap out of exhaust manifolds. but they are a pretty darn quick engine in the dakotas.

im not sure on what tranny's the 1500's are using in the mega cab, but while i was looking for a cummins i joined a forum and atleast half of the ones in the for sale section had rebuilt trannies and were all under 75k miles.

i did like how the 2500 cummins i drove road and the power was IMO better than the f250 i have, but the reason i didn't get one was because it feel cheap on the entire inside. i suprisingly also got alot more truck for my money by going with a ford. if your wanting a larger truck i would look into a f250 4x4 with a 5.4 pretty much the same set up you will be looking at. and i can tell you its going to be a turd, i drove a f250 4x4 with the 5.4 and it was rediculously underpowered. a tuner would be recommended to get the dodge moving even tho it has a hemi.

The mega cabs are sweet, a coworker had one and it was nice to be able to stretch out in the back seat. After that I got in a f250 crew cab back seat and felt a huge diference in leg room. My work truck was a ram 2500 crew cab with the hemi and I'll say that the hemi isn't enough motor for that heavy of a truck. If you are sold on the mega cab, find a cummins or you'll be very sorry.
