I have never in all my life seen anything like this. When she runs or walks backwards, it's as if she has no disorder. I feel so sorry for her. It looks life her life was really starting to take off too.

That's insane...
It's funny this popped up because a fellow coworker got a nasel flu shot, and has been sick for the past 2+ month... but not as in contagious sick, its whatever was in the flu shot reacted wrongly with his body.
I will never ever get a flu shot EVER. I'd rather deal with the flu itself... and it's funny, I've never had the flu. Mostly just strep throat in my life and common colds that last a couple days.

It is horribly saddening. It is heart-wrenching. Everybody is saying---"See, the flu shot is horrible! I will never get a flu shot! See what it does!!!'
It is not the flu shot; it is medicine. Stuff happens. Bad stuff happens. We focus on the flu shot as everybody is so tremendously aware of it. "See! See! You will never get me to get that vaccine! It may kill you."
Got news for you guys...let us say, for the sake of a discussion, you are out on your quad or your dirt bike and you break your leg...and you need surgery...yep---you COULD DIE! The anesthesiologist puts you under, and, well, sayonara! You see, Severe allergic reactions during anesthesia are fortunately rare, occurring only once in every 5,000 to 25,000 anesthetics. Unfortunately, these reactions can sometimes be fatal, with a 3.4% mortality. How many people received the flu vaccine? How many people have died, or have had these reactions from it?
I taught with a man who had a daughter who need a CAT scan of her heart...she unfortunately died from an allergic reaction to it...right there in the hospital CAT scan department...the doctor came out to tell him that there was nothing really wrong with his daughter's heart-- a murmer that she would most likely outgrow, when alarms went off and she had a horribly severe reaction to the dye. She was indeed a statisitic, an unfortunate one, but a rare miniscule number still.
Hey now---don't get your wives pregnant, as they could die or suffer serious health risks during the birth process---her is an example:
Pregnancy in particular has drawn a lot of attention from researchers. For one thing, it triggers chemical changes in a woman's blood that cause the body's natural clot-busting mechanisms to take a nine-month vacation. For another, it stimulates production of several substances that actually encourage artery-blocking clots to form.
But most strokes that occur during pregnancy are caused by eclampsia, a condition in which spasms in the blood vessels can cause artery-popping high blood pressure.
Although scientists don't really know what causes eclampsia, says Dr. Bousser, they do know that high blood pressure causes stroke. The relationship is so strong, doctors say, that your risk of stroke jumps 50 percent every time the diastolic (bottom) measurement of your blood pressure reading goes up five points.
How dangerous is stroke during pregnancy? In a study at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas of patients admitted to one hospital with pregnancy-related strokes, 20 percent died, while 40 percent of the survivors had neurological damage that caused paralysis or even blindness.
And if your wife and you are NOT TRYING TO HAVE A BABY, and are on the pill, consider this:
Although pregnancy puts women at risk for stroke, oral contraceptives can, too. Various studies indicate that stroke is one to six times more likely among women who use oral contraceptives, says Dr. Bousser. "The risk is increased primarily among women over 35 who have additional risk factors--smoking being the most important one."
Nobody knows exactly how much estrogen in a birth control pill it might take to increase stroke risk, nor do they know the effect of adding other hormones such as progesterone to the newest contraceptive formulations.
While high-dose estrogen contraceptives are known to increase stroke risk, studies show that low-dose contraceptives--the type currently used--do not themselves significantly increase the risk of stroke. They may, however, boost the risk from other factors, particularly high blood pressure and smoking, and should be avoided by women who are otherwise at risk for stroke
And, let's move on to another scenario---you have an infection, and the MD gives you a script for Amoxycillin...Did you guys know YOU COULD DIE FROM THAT?
Penicillins and cephalosporins are also the most common causes of drug allergy. About 10% of Americans report an allergy to penicillin or a related antibiotic. While penicillin allergy most commonly occurs in young adults, reactions can occur at any age. Women appear to be at higher risk than men. Approximately 300 deaths can be attributed to penicillin allergy each year in the United States. Symptoms of an allergic reaction to penicillin may include anaphylaxis, hives, below-the-skin swelling, asthma symptoms, as well as non-allergic symptoms such as serum sickness, certain forms of anemia, and other drug rashes
Like I said, I feel saddened by what happened to the young lady; but anytime you deal with medicine, you have to weigh the risks...stuff happens. And, like I said, how many people have received the flu vaccine and had no adverse reactions to it? How many board members here are part of a couple using "the pill"? There are risks involved there, as well. Do they consider those when the involve themselves with oral contraceptives?
It is unfortunate what happened to her---but it happens elsewhere in the medical field---in many other places. And we all know how the media loves to play up the horrible stories, as people getting the flu vaccine and having absolutely no reaction what so ever is not news-worthy.
Yep, those flu shots can kill ya...so can an anesthetic at the oral surgeon while having a tooth extracted; so can the amoxycillan for your ear infection.

Referee - Well said. I think its so stupid when someone reads or hears of another person having a bad reaction from a drug then declares they'll never use it.
Thanks for being logical.
Like you said it's rare, sad, and tragic, but doesn't mean a person should ever get the flu vaccine or take another medication.
This is why they have drug trials. Though, they can't test everyone. The medication I take, people have died in the drug trials, does this mean I'll die?
I took ONE prevacid and had an allergic reaction. Does that mean everyone else should never take it?
It's so stupid to me.
