photoshop question

So I downloaded a free trial to play around with for awhile and I thinkI did a pretty decent job on my first try but I don't know how to resize a layer.. So my truck is smaller than a mailbox lol. Can anyone steer me in the right way to fix it. And btw here is the photo.

im no expert but you should use the black hand (IIRC) and select the layer and the corners should light up allowing you to mess with it

CTRL + T is your "Free Transform" shortcut. You can also find it under the "Edit" menu option up top. Highlight what you want (in this case, your truck) and use that command to resize it. Be sure to hold SHIFT as you drag so that the proportions remain constant....

Keep in mind, though, that if your picture is that small and you're trying to make it bigger it will not look good at all. If it's not a high enough resolution, increasing the size will only pixelate it and make it blurry.

Not bad. Playing around with the Posterize Filter can make some pretty neat pictures.

You might also want to check out Paint.NET. It is a free download for the full version and you can do many of the same things as photoshop.

I've done gryphon splash screens...

CTS backgrounds...

Not sure what to call it besides advertisement but I thought it looked cool...

And also every sig pic I have ever used. If you look at my sig pic on the PHP forum, the truck was actually centered. The original edge is a little white line that looks like a piece of grass in the river. I fabricated the rest from that same picture(was lazy).

Might want to check it out once the trial version of photoshop runs out since it is free. I have also never had as much trouble with paint.net on my windows computer compared to photoshop on a desktop apple. Just thought it would be good to throw in my $.02.

Edit: also want to add that they have a great forum to browse if you have questions or want to try new effects.

I still use 7.0. I can't really tell that much difference in the newer CS5. I not an expert by any means either.

The best thing about CS5 is the content-aware feature. It's great but only under certain conditions. Sometimes it just can't replace the clone stamp tool.

I progressed with PS a few different ways, much like you I asked for help. I also spent alot of time on youtube and various PS tutorial websites.

Just grab you a few photos, load them onto a blank canvas get on youtube and search say "how to change car paint on PS" and you will get tons of videos most of which are really REALLY detailed. Just take her step by step, I usually watched the same vid 10 times.
