Wiretap

Do you remember the good olde days when our government was illegally wiretapping us? I felt pretty secure knowing that our government was being proactive, after years of pacivity got thousands of our fellow Americans killed by radical Islamic terrorists. We discussed it at length here. Here is one discussion:

F150 Online forum-Eavesdropping on you. (What are your thoughts)

Well the wiretapping never stopped. Yep, our government is still being proactive to this day. Now, they've expanded the surveillance from just our phones to our internet communications. I don't know about you, but I feel much better knowing that our government is keeping an eye out for the radicals who want to kill more of us.

Star Tribune-Wiretapped phones, now Internet?

So, I'm asking an old question with a new twist. Eavesdropping on you. (What are your thoughts)?

Well if you look at it from the outside in...the thought really isnt all that bad. These people that are doing the said eavesdropping, dont know you from Adam. Maybe embarrassment is the issue? The way i see it, if your not doing things illegal then why get upset!

Then there are those of us that like to look at "cool" stuff online...ie: guns, war history, munitions, and other such military/militia based material. Its going to be flagged!(if thats how it works??) We should all appreciate the fact that they are (sometimes) going to any level to protect our nations security.

To sum it up THEY ARE JUST TRYING TO SAVE YOUR A$$

I have nothing to hide but the more powers given to the government to control our freedoms has to be put in check.

There is a continuum between security and freedom. The more secure you are the less freedom you will have. The more freedom the less secure you are.

This is true with cases of the Patriot Act, gay marriage, abortion, prostitution, drugs, prohibition of alcohol or any other "vice" the government sees.

I understand we live in a dangerous world and there are terrorists out there trying to kill us but living in paranoid police state isn't worth the security.

I'm all for eavesdropping when it comes to national security.

I find it funny that now that Idiot-In-Chief is the President...the Dems or Libs are not as much opposed to it unlike when Bush was in charge.

It's protecting you now, and you're ok with it.

How are you going to feel when you're the one being policed?

If the program proves worthwhile results, It's a matter of time before it will turn from national security to a secret police force. Don't talk about how you exceeded the speed limit yesterday, smoked a joint when you were a kid or punched out a deserving idiot... *knock, knock* "Police, open up."

No big deal. And contrary to what some may think, it's not like some guy is sitting at his desk just randomly flipping switches and listening in on conversations.

It takes allot in the form of technology, manpower, and money to conduct a "Title 3"

And the amount of required documentation to a Judge is staggering.

I laugh everytime this comes up. It's just the media blowing it up again.

Again no big deal unless you are involved in something illegal.

If you are, keep a roll of tin foil handy to put over you head, because the "eye in the sky" can read your thoughts now from space!

Hell, I'm not worried about being policed by eavesdropping......I'm already being policed by paying taxes.

Btw, you're Canadian...who cares what you think.

I love how the same people that are fine with surrendering all of their freedoms are put off by paying taxes.

You guys would be very happy in Beijing. The government is all over any crime and punishes it swiftly with a bullet to the back of the head!

Next thing they'll do is encourage us to tell on our neighbors. And then you'll have guns taken away. Etc, etc. Sounds alot like pre-WW2 Germany.

Not to mention they take most of your money and redistribute it as they see fit. Why go to Beijing when it'll be just like that right here in the good olde US of A in no time if the progressives get their way.

So, what's the deal. Your guy Obama is doing this thing to better track criminals, which I'm sure is code for radical Islamist terrorists, and you aren't happy with it? You'll need to get back on script sir. Do not deviate from the script!

It's not any more right now than it was when the last guy did it. But again the progressives have to make this a left right thing. They just don't get it. They try to villify people who are finally getting involved in their government to put an end to the end runs that their supposed representatives have been doing around the Constitution in the name of national security, health care, the general welfare, financial reform, ect. ect. Cut off your nose to spite your face.

You can't pick and choose what and what not to follow in the Constitution. This is where I've come from since I made the comments that I did in the thread that I posted a link to from back in '06. Since then I've read, read about and understand the Constitution. Wrong is wrong, wether we say it's for national security or it's for redistributive change.

The Constitution provides for the ability to have an income tax. It also prohibits illegal search and seizure. Wiretapping certainly falls under this.

I am not sure where I am picking and choosing.

I also support people's rights to have guns (within reason). I don't want individuals to carry shotguns over their shoulder at the local Piggly Wiggly. I don't want individuals to have rocket launchers with nuclear/chemical warheads!

I agree that we have to follow the Constitution and with exceptions of laws like the Patriot Act we generally do.

Where do you stand on the recently passed health care legislation?

Czars, without congressional oversight?

Auto company bailouts?

What about TARP, 1 and 2?

Stimulous bill?

9th Amendment to the Constitution? Health care bill again.

10th Amendment to the Constitution? The list is long.

The Constitution does allow for an income tax. It does not limit the amount that they can take from us, which is why it is up to The People to elect representatives who will act responsibly with The Peoples money, and to rid our government of thoes who spend the fruits of future generations labor.
