I DO however, tend to look for "reasons" for people's behavior. What this guy did seems so aberrant that I can't see him as a "normal" member of society. I certainly think if he cannot be rehabilitated, he needs to be "put away" - forever.

Will - Please don't hear me excusing anyone here. I firmly believe we make choices and that there are always consequences when the choices are bad.

I know in my younger days when I drank I never did anything extraordinarily stupid while inebriated. It is possible to still make the right choices, whether impaired or not. This guy obviously has not figured that out.

Drugs are just the tip of the iceberg for that guys problems.
Just like the guys that used to plead insanity after they killed someone. Do sane people kill other people? No, I don't believe that's true. So, by my thought process, if you kill someone else by means other than an accident, you are insane. So hang'em all or put them all in institutions for the criminally insane, but don't start playing roulette with them by killing some and letting others live on.
Oops, this wasn't meant to start a debate. Just read it, laugh at it or shake your head knowingly and move along, nothing to see here folks.

I don't buy the "insanity" or "forgetfulness" defenses either. Thanks, Will, we're probably on the same page.
For the record, I'm not so much concerned with what the guy did, but what someone who does things like this will probably do in the future. I don't see him as a beneficial member of society.
