Telemarketers,what to do?

Ok have this carpet cleaning recording telemarketer that keeps ringing the house every couple of weeks. We are on the no call list and have also filed several complaints with the fcc with no change. There has to be a way that this can be corrected and figured someone out there in Ford land has had some sort of success.Ideas!

Move out of California

If the number is consistent, either you or the phone company should be able to block it.

Take a look at this site:

http://www.elementaldci.com/

If you click on Faqs and click on Respondent:

FAQ - Respondents

How did you get my phone number?
In most cases, your number was randomly selected from all available phone numbers in North America. In some instances, our clients provide us with a sample of their client list in order to conduct market research.
My number is unlisted so why did I get called?
Through a scientific sampling methodology called Random Digit Dial generation, we generate a large list of telephone number combinations, many of which are not actual phone numbers. You may think that we just take numbers from phone books but market research is very scientific and it is important that we get views from all types of respondents.
I have registered with the Do Not Call list
so you are not allowed to call me.
Market research is not part of the Do Not Call list as we are not telemarketing – there are no sales involved. However, we do respect that you may not wish to be called and if so, please e-mail us at info@elementaldci.com and we will add you to our own Do Not Call list.
What personal information do you have on me?
When we call you, all we have is the information listed in the phone book. We are fully compliant with PIPEDA and do not provide any personal information we collect about you to our client without your permission.

Some BS right?!

Thought so. It is so misleading. They first say they don't use lists of numbers, but then go and contradict themselves by saying they get "sample" lists... yeah, phone numbers...

I wonder how company's get away with this?!

If there was a way to contact a person I would sit there and tie up as much of their time as possible. I did that one day I was bored and it worked. They never called us again. They dont like it when you waste their time. It is a very ironic business.

I've done that before too. It's hilarious, espcially when you turn a simple 3 minute call into 25 minutes and they get really fustrated.

Yeah it's funny.

I know how it works too... if they get an actual person on the line, their supervisor makes them stay on the line until they get what they called for usually. So if the telemarketer disconnects, they will get chewed out by their supervisor. And it can go the other way too, because not only did you spend 25 minutes wasting their time, but they will still get chewed out for spending too much time on the phone AND not getting an answer. It's funny any way you slice it.

Simply say,,, "hold on a sec" and put the phone down and walk away... until they hang up... Works like a charm

I've done that too... and sometimes put it next to the radio/ipod, so it sounds like they are on hold.

What scariest part is, the fact that some people don't have lives, and sign up to get telemarketing calls, just so they can have someone that calls them and talks to them. I guess it makes them feel important when the phone rings.

Only problem is that here in Tx, you get alot of calls in spanish. Then you have to fall back to "Quiero un taco" over and over.

...but I hate angry spanish ladies making collection calls. Those are always kinda scary because they think you are Pedro's gringo friend covering for him with a new cell phone.

Luckily for me, I know spanish, and I can speak it and write it well.

I've never had a spanish speaking lady yet... or an angry one... I'd love to mess with her.
