So far i like the android...but, i came from a nextel. The text is basically instant messaging with the speed and features. Plus, watching videos (youtube) and taking pics, it has a 3.2 mp camera which takes great pics. I don't need alot of stuff it has but i mainly just use it for text/pics/videos. I'm not a real computer junkie though. I plan to download some apps eventually.
Do i have to worry about gettning a virus on my phone???

Nothing really, except iPhone users (and Apple people in general) are typically elitist ****** that try hard to justify their devices.
In all reality, if you want a device that functions well without tinkering or mussing about too much, get an IPhone. I promise you'll be happy, there's a few unforgivable things Apple does, but they aren't total deal breakers, the hardware works good, and now you can get one on a real cell network.
If you want a device that functions well and gives you a lot of options to customize and play with even without rooting, get something that runs Android.
The iPhone is a good piece. There are a lot of good Android choices out there as well. Pick whichever you like best, you'll be fine. The evangelists(sp) on both sides are annoying. It's a phone, not a religion.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, even stupid ones.
Before you reply, let me clear the air and say that both systems work fine, and IMO it comes down to personal preference. Saying one is better than the other is ignorant. They both give the average joe schmoe cell user a lot of power and flexibility in a small package.

Oh yeah, apps.
As someone else mentioned, the bar code scanner is kinda cool at first, but yeah, ultimately useless.
Chomp SMS is cool if you don't really like the stock text message handler.
Pandora Radio is awesome, but don't get it if you don't have an unlimited data plan, it is a data using beast.
Lightning Bug has replaced my FM radio in helping me sleep at night. It's extra awesome if you travel and stay in hotels a lot.
I didn't like the original Motorola launcher on my Droid X, so I got ADW Launcher Pro. Just purely aesthetic changes, nothing especially functional.
I like Dolphin HD for a web browser.
Convert Pad is a nice all in one units converter.
Urban Dictionary is fun for the lolz, and there's a wiki widget that works well.
I got the HTC Sense clock widget, just cause I didn't really like the looks of the original clock (common theme here with Android: if you don't like it, change it).
PDAnet is a fun one, lets you tether your phone to your PC and use it as a modem to get online (someone correct me, but I think only jailbroken iPhones can do this - edit, my mistake, looks like you can tether an iPhone, you just get charged extra for it). That app is free at first, but you gotta pay for it after 30 days, IIRC. It's like $15.
And I got a few games, Shift, Angry Birds, Tank Hero something or another.

Sales ain't really a fair comparison when talking iPhones to Android phones. Up until recently, there wasn't but one place you could get an iPhone from, and there ain't but one company that makes them. Compare that to all the carriers that offer Android devices, and the plethora of companies that make them, there better be a lot of Android devices out there, otherwise the companies involved are losing money.

With an iPhone you sell your soul to a guy in a black turtleneck and no belt who will lock you into his domain to make money off you.
With Android you sell you personal data to a multi-billion dollar corporation, so they can make money off you. (See chapter 11 of the Android ToS).
Pick your poison...
