Derek you're shots are amazing! Man you've picked up so quickly since you bought that camera. Simply stunning.

I need some help guys. I have a Nikon D40 with the non-auto bracketing. So I'm trying to HDR manually. When I'm doing the -2/0/2 spread this is the process I'm doing:

1.) Set camera to automatic. Focus and remember settings (0)
2.) Set to manual, set same settings as the auto shot. Rotate wheel two clicks to adjust shutter speed (-2)
4.) Then advance four clicks upwards (+2)
5.) Export to HDR software.

The pics don't come out so well. Better than a regular pic but still not a good HDR. I read somewhere the little exposure meter in the viewfinder has to be centered, but if I try to center it, the picture is extremely dark or out of exposure. So I've been setting it to auto to get the general settings. I know I'm doing something wrong. Can anyone help?

lol, yeah, if i posted them smaller, they'd look dumb and not so much detail. what do you mean upgrades? camera body wise? or lenses? grips?

That will be more lens than camera body. A decent lens I always been told to start with is a 50mm 1.8F IS lens. Or if you've the coin, the 1.4F models.

But that lens always looks too close to my subject in my mind.
