CANADIANS! Please chime in

I have to leave Anchorage on February 22 2012. And I would like to end up in Oregon. I cannot get a good answer from anyone personally. So I ask you, If you had to leave alaska in February, what route would you take. Also know that I am going to have a 7500 lb. trailer behind me. I dont need a hotel every night, but every other day would be great.

So what say you?

Military is the reason for the move. Just asking because I don't trust the google map route in the winter. Want to know if there is a for sure safe route, or one close to that anyways.

Get a copy of "The Milepost".

I would probably not take the Cassiar, I'd probably take the Alcan all the way to Dawson Creek.

I have heard to avoid the Cassiar this time of year. And I already have the newest copy. Just really looking for maybe a personal experience or two. Just dont want to have to worry more than I have too...

How about driving down to Haines and taking the ferry?

If you could ferry from AK to WA, or even Vancouver, do that. Otherwise I personally would avoid the mountains, 1 because it's winter and 2 because of 1 plus a heavy trailer. Maybe going through Alberta? It's pretty damn flat there.

Yeah - but first you have to GET there. You have to take the whole Alaska Highway first.

True, still beats all mountain driving, but only by a little.lol. Talking with the wife, a once Vancouver resident, she says everyone doing similar takes a ferry. Expensive but considering the alternative ways it is not and less risky, avalanches, road closures etc.
