BBQ Anyone?

This is a truck site, so I figure y'all must like to bbq too.

I started "cheating" a few years ago with this pellet grill.

I think you burnt your pizza a little, but those ribs look pretty dang good.....

I live in Texas and travel all over the state for business. I've found that there are so many fantastic BBQ joints down here that it isn't worth the time and effort for me to make it on my own.

Although I have to admit that it's nice to step outside on a weekend afternoon and smell the wonderful scent of smoking meat wafting through the neighborhood.....

Pizza might have been a little burnt, but friday night is pizza and ****tail night and not necessarily in that order! So it was delicious, I think.

Funny, it wont let me type ****tail (so uh, mixed alcoholic adult beverage).

I used to get to Texas every once and a while and you are right. You got a lot of great bbq down there. Not so much here in Oregon. Had some of the best brisket ever in Texas. I have tried to do brisket several times but it kicks my *** every time. If I hadn't ever had good brisket down there you would never ever get me to buy one again. It is a poor cut of meat from the toughest muscle in the whole damn cow. I will try again this year though. It's a challenge now and it's personal this time!

Yeah -- brisket is definitely a specialty down here, and it amazes me when I travel to other parts of the country what they call brisket.....

So far in my life I have lived in two BBQ "Mecca's" -- Kansas City and Texas. While both are good, I have to give Texas the nod just because there are so many places here that do it to such a high level.

I'm heading out on the road again on Thursday morning and now you've got me thinking about what little place I'm going to have to hit between here and Fort Worth.....

Texas inspired me to improve on my bbq skills. Here's a pork loin I did a couple weeks ago. The picture quality sucks, it was from my phone.

I've done a turkey the last two christmases. Those ribs look great, I might try the pizza some day. Take and bake?

Looks good! I like my pizza crust a little crispy.

Yep, Take and bake Papa Murphy's. It is a lot better cooked on the grill. I like to slide it off the take and bake paper tray with about 10 minutes left to cook so the crust will crisp up some.

I always meant to take better pictures of my bbq, you know, more artsy, arranged on a plate with sides and garnishes. But by then I'm ready to eat, not take photos.

I'm usually the same way, just happened to have my phone handy while I was cutting it up.

Here's the last turkey I did, no real good pictures of it after it was carved. I should have tied the wings and legs to the body better, had to put those in the oven for a little bit afterwards.

David, I think I have told you before, any place you see a Cooper's BBQ, try it. Also if in East texas, try Bodacious (Longview, Tyler, Henderson, Arlington and Burleson).

Looks Good! Definitely got some smoke on that bad boy. Conventional smoker? I did 1/2 a turkey after Thanksgiving so I could have some leftover sandwiches.

I use my grill to do it. Usually get wood blocks from home depot after the fire goes out I use ones that have been soaked in water so they don't burn as fast. The hardest part is keeping the temperature just right.

I've never heard of Cooper's before or even seen them on my travels.......???

I stopped at the Bodacious in Tyler the last time I went to visit our mill up in Carthage -- I can't remember what I had that night, but I do remember the gal behind the counter sure was pretty.......

It's a shame you don't remember how good the sauce was!

I've eaten at Cooper's in Mason and the new one in Fort Worth.

I'm apparently not quite old enough for the memory of the sauce to overtake the memory of the pretty girl.....

I've actually begun to keep a log of the different BBQ joints I've tried around the state and rate them on the quality of their meats, sides, drinks, etc. I have them organized by the major routes I take out of the Houston area so if I know I'm heading a certain direction I can just check the appropriate list and decide where I want to grab some grub that day.....

I'll have to check Cooper's out the next time I'm down by the Stockyards.....

If you get a chance next time you make over around the Richmond/Rosenberg area you should try the "Swingin' Door" barbecue place. Its been around for quiet a while. Hell I used to was dishes in the back when I was 16
