Unhappy My truck caught on fire, now vehicleless...

Not sure where to put this.
There was an electrical fire within the AC and the whole thing went up in flames on Friday. I loved that truck...
What do I do now? I'm still shaking since I was in it when it started...
I want to look into another truck but what is reliable? Should I look into another Ford or something else? Has this happened to any of you guys?

Picture of aftermath. (more in my profile) My truck caught on fire, now vehicleless...-9weual.jpg

Wow! Glad you're ok!! That would be scary as heck! I'd say go with another Ford.

Never had anything like that happen to me, but there was a recall of a cruise control switch on top of the brake master cylinder. http://www.switchfires.com/

The bad ones caused a few fires, usually when the vehcile was unattended. I saw a truck in my neighborhood that burned up that way. Luckily, that one was parked on the street. A few people around the country lost their homes when the truck burned up in the garage.

As for reliability, IMO most the brands are pretty good on the big ticket items like motors and transmissions, but the corners get cut on things like window motors, etc... Lots of cheap stuff under the skin on all the brands.

Get another ford! Glad you're okay! What did the insurance give you for it?

Electrical fire within the A/C? How does that even make any sense?

One of my neighbors 20 year old caddy burned up last nite too, from an electrical short.

Luckily he had parked it outside yesterday or he would have had a house fire, also.

That's a real bummer man. Might want to use this as an opportunity to upgrade to an 04-08 or current gen truck. Don't think there have been any electrical fire recalls on those 2, but don't quote me on it.

My neighbor lost her Grand Marquis and her house to the cruise recall. Her husband got the recall notice and passed away before he could take the car in. She was not aware of the recall. Parked it in the garage and caught fire. She had no idea...neighbor pulled her out of the house right before the gas tank blew up. Whole house was a loss. Her husband and house all within 3 months.
Glad you got out ok. I would upgrade if it were me...
